Nothing much happening around the house last night so went out with my son to do some calling. Pretty redneck approach using downloaded distress audio clips on my smartphone broadcast through a wireless mini speaker.
Went down by a creek and laid down in a weedy summer fallow field and called for about 45 minutes. Beautiful evening, not a breath of wind. Nothing came in so we went for a stroll further along the creek. Came upon a nice enclosed spot with a cultivator parked along the edge. Proved a great place to have a stand. Placed the speaker on the drawbar and let it buck. My son said "You think this is going to work?"
Less than 5 minutes later we heard something coming through the grass in the trees by the creek. Mr. W. Coyote popped out about 20 yards away looking at the 2 Fudds sitting on the cultivator. Dam that kid can shoot quick. Before I could start to lift my gun his went off and the coyote dropped.
Walked over and found him in the deep grass but noticed a fifth leg sticking out under his front end.

The coyote still had a front quarter of a fawn in his mouth when he came in looking for more to eat. The fawns mother bounced out into the field as we approached the carcass. No doubt she was standing there watching her offspring being eaten.
Kind of a bitter sweet hunt but at least one less fawn killer out there.
