One Optic to Ride Them all?

I've got a wild idea that I'd like some feedback on. My intent is to buy one optic and use it on two rifles. One, Robarm XCR (223/7.62 Soviet) and the other a Remington 700 (308). I intend to carry a T-Handle torque wrench (65in-lb) to ensure the mounting is consistent for each swap.

Intended use:
XCR- Service Rifle 223 ~600m
XCR- Hunting(?) 7.62 Soviet <200m

700- Tac Rifle ~600m
700- Hunting <300m (BC regions 1/2/8 mainly)

The scopes I had in mind were the Schmidt & Bender Short Dot 1-8 or the Leupold CQBSS 1.1-8. I want FFP with illumination and matching MIL/MIL configuration.

One possible drawback is the limited light transmission through the smaller lens (24mm vs a 40-55mm). Another consideration is keeping a log of adjustment required when transferring from one to another.

Thoughts?

you still have to re-zero every time you swap between rifles, as each caliber has a different point of impact- every barrel is different, and you 'tune" your scope to that barrel-

I don't particularly trust quick detach scope mounts, but...

If you have the right kind mounts (I have no idea which are best) and the right kind of turrets so you can keep track of settings on a high quality scope, it should be doable...theoretically.

However, I suspect that the first time you miss on that buck of a lifetime, you'll probably curse the day you thought of it!

:)

You're looking at two scopes that are not even available to the public, and landed in Canada would be at least $3K. IF they are exportable, which I'm guessing they won't be.

If it were me, I'd get two $1500 scopes before one $3K one. One for each rifle. Swapping to me doesn't make any sense, especially if you're talking about needing to torque each one the same... if you went the 'one scope' route, and DIDN'T get a quick detach mount/base setup, you'd be a fool.

What you want sounds good in theory, but personally I think it's a dumb idea. Needing re-zero every time would get old reaaaalllly quick.

I'd get a quality 1-4X or 1.5x6X on the XCR, and a good 4-14 or similar on the 700. You'd be MUCH better off, IMHO.

I should mention that I have a 223/308 laser chamber boresighter which should help double-check the zero. The XCR has KAC 2-600m buis which I plan on using regularly.

The S&B 1-4 short dot is currently ~$2300. A lot of my decision will ride on how much the 1-8 power scopes retail for. This summer should be interesting for scopes; Nightforce should have something new coming out as well.

??? S&B is avialble from Wolverine.....but, yeah you're right you're lookng at 2400$+

I would think that the biggest concern would be that neither of them are even in production yet, and when they are, may not even be exportable.

What sort of scope options are there in Canada for good quality FFP, MIL/MIL scopes with illuminated reticules? If they can be had for around $1000 each then I'd agree, I'm better off going with two scopes.

Get the Larue mount qd lt 104 and you will be fine as it doesn't loose its Zero, know your settings on your scope and switching will be fine on the S&B (which is what you pay for) you will be rezeroing the leupold more often. I wouldn't settle for anything less than the S&B if you plan on moving it a lot. a good alternative would be a Night force 1-4X24 for the 223 and a night force 2.5-10x24 or 32 for the 308. I believe you would be extrmely happy with that setup. Switching optics becomes a pain in time.
