One powder for 9mm, 40 S&W and 45 ACP

I'm looking to start using one powder for the 3 cartriges mentioned above.

I've tried HS-6 which worked fine but I'm out and would have to wait for an order to come in.

I can get W-231 or WSF today.

I'm using the following bullet weights:

9mm - 150 cast (my Lyman mould is dropping the 147's a bit heavy, but they shoot well)

40 - 180 cast

45 - 233 cast

Looking at the data on the Hodgdon site, WSF seems to be the most suitable so I'm leaning toward that but I haven't heard much about how it behaves. I know W-231 is popular in the 45 and looks good in the 40 as well but I'm not so sure about using it with heavy bullets in the 9mm.

Anybody got any experience to share about using WSF in any of these cartridges?
 
I use Titegroup for 9mm, .357 Magnum and .45 ACP but I use FMJ or TMJ projectiles. Not sure how it would do on cast because Titegroup burns fast and hot. If you decide to give it a try watch for double charging as others have warned (figure an extra warning can't hurt....:))
 
As it turns out I'm staying with HS-6.

When I called my supplier they said they were out but we discovered that they were mistaken when I got there.

I got three pounds of HS-6 and I also got a pound of WSF to try out. I can always use it in shotgun loads if I don't like it for handgun.

is there a reason behind the choice of hs-6? (like the powder myself but think Unique would be a better powder if I had to keep only 1)

A couple of reasons:

It meters very well (ball powder)

It seems to be suited for near max loads, especially with heavy-for-caliber bullets, which is what I'm doing.

It gave good results in all three calibers.

WSF looks like it might be a little better suited, I guess I'll find out.

The main reason I got started with HS-6 is because I had some (actually Win 540 - same thing) on the shelf when I ran out of Unique.
 
Unique is a flake powder. I find it will not meter in my redding thrower. It is ok in my Dillon and Lyman. This is why i do not suggest unique on here.

I switched to IMR 7625 because it is similar speed to unique, bulky and meters very well. It has also made nice accurate loads thet meed the Power Factors.

The VHT powders meter well, burn clean, but are pricy and hard to find.
 
vihtavuori N350 for the cast. The slower burning will lessen the mess of the lead overheating in the barrel and it still makes nice holes in the paper. Atleast it does for me.
