one seating die to rule them all????

Good morning,

In a recent youtube rabbit hole excursion I found a video reviewing the FA universal seating die (link will be somewhere on this post). Gavin from Ultimate reloader was showcasing this seating die that worked for common calibers ranging from .22 all the way up to .338 mag. so far definitely interested as FA has always threaded the needle of good enough quality at a reasonable price, and I'de love to just spend good money on 1 die as apposed to getting bunch of cheaper ones per caliber. Has anyone had experience with this die yet and where can you find it up here in Canada?

It is obviously intended for target and precision shooters. I load for hunting and plinking, but I have a set of dies for each rifle that I don't have to mess with much each time I change calibers on the press. I actually bought a Lee cast turret press and a bunch of turrets so I don't have to do anything when changing calibers unless I change the bullet. Having one precision seating die for each rifle and not having to do the whole setup process each caliber change seems like a lot less of a PITA than what I just watched. |I have some FA stuff and I like it. But I would give this a pass.

Looks like a remake of the older Vickerman seating dies.

I've got a few of the Vickermans, they are incredible dies. With a small lathe it is relatively easy to make your own internals for whatever caliber you want. I thought they were out of business and only available on ebay, but it looks like they are still being made.

Their web site says they have only been making them since 2005, but i think that is the new vickerman owner. My dies are at least 50 years old.

What I like best about them is you just drop the bullet in the little cutout/window and it is automatically centred onto the neck of the casing. IMO much faster and consistent than having to balance the bullet on the neck and then inserting into the die, easy to adjust. I don't use any other seating dies if I can help it.
