With an old 2.5 - 8 scope that had internal problems, it was disassembled and the eye piece doubles as a loop.
The picture shows an Agfa 8X loop and the eyepiece. The loop is for viewing 35 mm contact prints for quality and sits directly over the viewing area.
It allows light into the viewing area.
The eye piece allows some light onto the viewing area but it can be lifted off the surface for light and by lifting has some enhanced focus.
Just a thought but in hindsight, this Bushnell could have been sent to Bushnell for repair or replacement . . . too late now!
