Just as an introduction to the Postal Matches: These matches are set up so that all you have to do is select the match(s) you would like to shoot in, read the rules, print the target, shoot the target at the range, and post your score in the enter scores thread. You do not have to send in a target to me or anybody else: These matches are based strictly on the honour system
Here are the basic rules for all the matches: For specific rules on each match scroll down the page

All matches are based on the honour system. This means that you shoot the matches by the rules, at the proper distance and report your score. You score the target your-self.

All targets are scored best edge. The highest ring the bullet touches is what it scores. Go to this page for more information

Any rimfire caliber allowed

For the open sight match (50 yards only) you must use open sights. Peep sights are allowed.

For all other matches, rules are unlimited. This means that as long as the caliber is rimfire you are allowed to use any type of gun, ammo, scope, rifle rest, ect.

You are allowed up to 4 tries per month per gun on each match. You can shoot with as many guns as you like.

And some useful tips

I have found that if you are sighted in at 50 yards and would like to shoot at 100 yards you will have to move the scope up about 30-32 clicks if using target standard velocity ammo. If you are using high velocity ammo, about 20-22 clicks will do.

50 Yard unlimited

http://www.plinker.org/images/Targets/USBR/usbr85x11.pdf

Targets Needed: 2

Distance: 50 yards

Time limit: 20 minutes

Maximum score: 250-25X

Class: Scoped Bench-rest

Instructions: Shoot 1 shot at each bull, except for the last bull that has to be shot twice for a total of 25 shots. If the shot completely covers the 10 ring, which is the little inside dot measuring .100 in diameter than the shot scores a 10X. So again, to score an X, the shot must completely cover the 10 ring, with the lead made from the bullet completely over-top of the 10 ring.

If the shot misses the bull all – together the shot scores a “0”. No addition “make-up” shot may be taken.

*** Official USBR targets are also allowed

50 yard Iron Sights

http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/75FT NRA.pdf

Targets needed: 2 (or 1: See note below)

Distance: 50 yards

Time-limit: 30 minutes

Maximum score: 200

Class: Open Sight Bench-rest

Instructions: Using open sights (peep sights and/or front apertures are allowed) fire 5 shots at each bull (10 shots per target) for a total score of 200.

*** You may also print off just one target for the match but if you have aperture sights and can "group" the shots fairly well you may find that it is hard to score. If you print off 1 target and can not tell which ring the bullet touches please score shot as being lower of the two. If you go this route shoot 10 shots at each target instead of five.

20 Yard Off-hand fun-match

http://www.uspalma.com/Targets/PDFs/75FT NRA.pdf

Targets Needed: 1

Distance: 20 yards

Time Limit: 45 minutes

Maximum score: 200

Class: Standing (no supports at all): Any gun

Instructions: Shoot 10 shots at each bull offhand (standing with no supports) with any gun (scopes or open sights are allowed).

100 Yard Unlimited:

We have a new target for the 100 yard Unlimited match!

http://cherrytwist.googlepages.com/PQFG100.pdf

Targets needed: 1

Distance: 100 yards

Time limit: 30 minutes

Maximum score: 300-30X

Class: 100 yard bench-rest

Instructions: Use the top left bull as a sighter target. With the three remaining bulls shoot 10 shots at each one. If the shot touches the circle with the X inside you score an X (10X). Shots outside the bull count as "0". No additional shot may be taken if this happens.

[NEW] - Three Position 20 Yard Match

Here are the rules:

Target http://cherrytwist.googlepages.com/Target_ISSF_2.pdf

*** Note! When printing set margins or print scale to "None". When printig thise target the outside of the 7 should measure about 80mm or 3.15".

NEW TARGET SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR PEEP SIGHTS, TWO BULLS ENDING AT #6 RING

Don't be put off by rough look of this handmade target - outer edges are all perfectly round. Never mind inner edges, those are only to lighten up the target for peeps sights.

for new two-bull target fire 5 shots at each bull (10 shots total) for each position.

Rifle: A rimfire rifle with any design single shot or repeater may be used.

Sights: Sights are recommended. Your choice (scope or open sights)

Equipment: No ISSF type of shooting jacket, pants, or boots may be used. A sling will not be allowed either.

Time limit: 20 minutes per 10 shots

Maximum score: 300-30X

Course of Fire: Shoot 10 shots prone, 10 shots kneeling, and 10 shots standing at each target (10 shots per target). No supports will be allowed (no sandbags in prone, or posts in standing, etc). You may use some sort of rest to rest the gun on AFTER each shot – but not during the shot. The highest ring the bullet touches is the point(s) you get. If the shot touches the X you get a “10X” . The 9 ring on this target is the one that measures about 1.4" in diamter and the 10 ring is the one that measures about .6" in diameter. The X is the smallest ring that measures about 1/4" in diamter.

If the shot misses the bull all – together the shot scores a “0”. No addition “make-up” shot may be

[NEW] - Prone Match at 20 Yards

Same rules as above with same target. Shoot 10 shots at 2 different targets (20 shots in all) for a maximum score of 200-20X. As mentioned above no shooting coat, sling or other supports (Just pure muscle )

With the exception to off hand fun match (distance changed to 20 yards) rules did not change. Any suggestions are most welcomed. Please participate and keep these matches a success.

there was a link sometime ago, kind of missed in action. "Best edge scoring" means if bullet hole is just touching higher ring, even if it just nearly scratching paint off it - then the shot it scored as higher ring. With 22 holes, especially if target is printed on generic printing paper and not supported with cardboard, it is hard to tell where exactly the side of the hole. In this case your best friend is a plug, specifically made for scoring purpose. 22 cartridge is not good because it is considerably bigger.

Folks, I just created yahoo group for our on-line matches. If I am not mistaken yahoo site supports .xls files that can be edited by group members. Details will follow as I am a bit new to managing groups. Link to the groups is here:

http://ca.groups.yahoo.com/group/gunnutzrimfirematches

and group e-mail can be found here

gunnutzrimfirematches@yahoogroups.ca

as far as I can remember e-mails sent to group address will be broadcasted to all individual e-mail addresses. PM me with suggestions - I want to keep this thread reserved for match rules only.

Scores kept in this file here:

anyone who has better targets in PDF or any other printable format please let me know. Our 20 yard off hand targets are way to pixelated. We also may need something with 4-bulls, maybe in landscape orientation for ease of scoring. Existing targets are hard to score for they become very messy with 10-shots in each bull.

Is there a 100 yard iron sight target that can be used? I'd like to shoot my Anschutz with peep sights. Also a 50 yard iron sight target, the link is dead.
Never mind, I found them this morning

Hmmm, I'm thinking there must be a better way to host the targets - the Yahoo link works, but I can't find the targets. The standalone link for 50 unlimited is borked.
