Well I finally sent my papers in with my picture and Safety course proof. I figure it will take about 1 month and 2 weeks. (I'm going for the non and restricted guns license)

Was just wondering how long to expect I know there is other threads but I also have a few other questions.

1.I hear that even if your license is approved that they postpone delivery or something like that.
2.what are some good guns under 300 bucks for beginners ( I know that's a cheap budget but hey I'm not making the big bucks yet).

Thank you for reading this .

1) If I recall, they hold it for 30 days before processing anything. You're looking at more than 1 month and 2 weeks.

2) I suggest checking out the military surplus section of the forums. You can get an SKS and other great "older" rifles in that section (such as a garand, sks, mosin nagant.)

I just read the shorten pal times thread and it said the wait period is 28 days and that any time in that 28 days your app can be processed. So not sure if what you said is right but , I know about those guns , was just thinking maybe those guns would be to much for me , I by far not a weakling ( I work as a stock person). from what I know the garand easily exceeds 300 bucks for a good one.

Thanks for the response though.

From what I've heard, people have had to wait almost a while, but it depends on the individual though.

You could also go to to a range and shoot some guns and see how you like the feel.
or meet up with some users on the forums and test fire their guns.

You could get a nice .22 for under $300 also.

Handguns? I suggest a 9mm.

But I honestly think you could handle an SKS.

I also know that ammosource has Russian Tokarev TT-33's for $180. Great handgun. as well has 1911's chambered in .22lr for $309.

Check out marstar also. They have a great selection of .22s and other rifles for a good price.

There is a 28 day mandatory wait time and with hunting season around the corner there will be more people filing for licenses and probably a back log from over the summer holidays so I would be impressed if you see it within 3 months.

Agreed. But, in the mean time; check out some gun reviews online. Then when you get your license, you'll already know the gun you want and how much it costs. (and more money to buy a better one, or more. Or ammo).

I suggest older guns like the SKS as they're cheap, beautiful and the ammo is cheap. (Thank you surplus!).

Well I been rolling the idea of getting a liscense now for 2 years so this is not some whimsy, I'm in for it till the day I roll over. I guess 3 more months will be ok , I got to clear out a spot anyhow for where to put the safe and stuff. I know a gun store that has a 40 dollar fee for test running some good selection of guns without a license though some of them include stuff I would not go near right now (357 magnum could break a joint if I do it wrong or worse). Now that I think about it 1 month and 2 weeks may be likely if it was just for non restricted but with restricted yea it's going to be awhile even with my squeaky clean record. One last thing do you have to maintain restricted gun to have the restricted license I'm going to stay away from handguns for the first few months of my gun journey.

Thanks for your suggestion and have a good one.

No not at all, I know a lot of people with there restricted license and no restricted firearms of there own. I have heard of them trying to take it away but if you say No way I don't see them having a leg to stand on cause you have passed the tests and paid the fee's. That being said I couldn't imagine having the license without buying something...

Well The only reason I want to stay away from handguns for the first few months is cost , the hassel of having one for a new gun owner may be a little much right off the bat. I do by means plan to have many guns (alot will be restricted :D ) here are a few examples:

-colt 1873 single action
-CZ 52
-1911 original style
-Steyr HS50(yes technically it's non restricted but in my mind it's the forbbiden
fruit of guns for me right now)

Just to label a few of interest. Well thanks for the answers
