Ont.Deer tag

lol. That doesn't even get started on beer, gas, shells, camo, scent control, lunches, butchering, and maybe another new gun for this year, a nicer vest, another coat that's rainproof, new boots, time off work.

Yeah, not too worried about $47 :). And really, I'm happy paying for ministry stuff anyway. Hunting for those in urban areas is pretty much an affluent sport anyway. Not for the poor, that's for sure.

I don’t mind paying the $47 and also figure it’s a small price to pay. There are those who are retired or do not make a lot of money and have financial commitments who find it rather pricey. When you have all the gear and that is all you need to spend it is unfortunate that it is hard to do for some. My son is young and just starting out so I buy his tag every year, I do know every little bit helps when you are trying to make ends meet.

I similarly squawked about the price of a turkey license earlier this year. I believe license fees go to general coffers which really irks me, otherwise I may not complain about these costs. Yes, they are the tip of the iceberg as far as total costs for participating and it is a shame for those really tight on finances but they are escalating too much. However, if you want to be ethical (non-poach) you don't have much choice unless you can review ancestry .com and find some reason to qualify for a native card, lmao.

I just got a new outdoors card, a resident deer license/tag and a 3 year small game license - grand total was $127.93

I agree with op... Services down price up... I don't mind dishing for my favorite hobby that I am passionate about... I just would like to know what the justification is to raise the price and lower the services... Lame..

Something you 'believe' irks you? Then don't believe it. These fees are intended to fund MNR operations, there's no evidence they go into general coffers. The tag fees are a small percentage of MNR operating costs anyway, which means it is funded from general coffers.
I'm pretty sure that if hunters had to front the actual cost of maintaining seasonal hunting in Ontario, tags would be a lot more than $47.
Just my $0.02.
Once I'm licensed, and ready next year, I'll be happy to fork it over for the chance to get out there. ;)

I don't mind paying the fees as long as they were staying in Ontario. Unfortunately our tags are issued by a US company who won the contract to do so. And that is disturbing.

I have more of an issue with the limits here, though the price is just one more cost of a long list of expenditures for anyone not able to simply walk into their back field and bring home dinner. It would be more cost effective if when out hunting you could get more than one (or maybe 2 if you got lucky in the draw) deer. Always reading about guys in other areas or in the states getting multiple deer per year, and I'm sure they pay less per tag than we do in the first place. I see deer almost every night in my area, I think the population could handle a bit more hunting considering how few people actually hunt today.

I work at a grocery store and my co-workers had a good laugh when I said I was interested in going turkey hunting this year. You can buy one in the store cheaper than the price of a turkey license even before you get into all the other hunting related costs. There's also a good chance you will come home empty handed on a hunt, not so much of an issue at the store. Even in the spring you aren't allowed to take both your Turkeys on the same day...making the process even more difficult. Considering the numbers of Turkey in the province nowadays and how much of a nuisance they have become in some areas, a very small percentage actually gets taken successfully.

As this is my first year hunting and I haven't taken a shot at any game yet...it's going to be some very expensive deer meat that I bring home when I do. Stupidly expensive if it's something like a squirrel.

Services have actually gone up.....you can now buy your tag online.

Im curious what other service you want with your deer tag? An employee to guide you out to the bush?

MANY areas of Ontario have multiple tags available. Did you even check if your does?

You don't hunt to save money on food. Maybe your great Grandpa did, and that's why game was so scarce for many years. If you take the money you will spend on hunting and fishing and shop the weekly specials with it you will have more food than you can eat in a year.

$47....Canada's Wonderland for a day
$47....2 "tours" at Niagara (about two hours)
$47....dinner for two, on the cheap
$47.....1/3 tank of gas.
$47....3 month of deer hunting

Humph, tough decision
