Ontario Antlerless deer draw

I stand corrected. Thanks for clearing it up. We're not seeing much in terms of results, though. I wonder if the government downloaded other costs to them?

I don't think so.... But, "Planning policy and regulation" getting 30% is not good.... Policy and regulation stays mostly the same every year, and I think that's just a fancy way of saying "Bureaucratic red tape"....

Like I said, the money is going to the right place, it's just not being managed well....

MNR meeting a little while ago was attended by a buddy, he said basically every time a question about money was asked, the answer was; we have no money but we can help you... they would offer instruction on your land and work with you however they wouldn't be paying for anything other than the persons time.

Is the Gov't still looking for the 80-odd million that can't be accounted for from license fees? Only in this province can some gov't idiot loose millions and not be a guest at the crowbar hotel.

The MNR has been playing that same song for the last 25 years..............nothing new there !!!!!

My Dad has a farm in Renfrew. He and his neighbours feed the deer all winter long from the own pocket.
I guess that is the situation all over Ontario. --> no cost to Ontario government

When Deer season is over, some hunters get survey cards and fill them out. --> low cost to Ontario government.

To my mind the $50 is another tax, and bears no relation to what services the Ontario government provides in monitoring
and keeping deer stocks healthy.

Having said all that, do I buy my tag? Yes, I enjoy the week I spend deer hunting and look forward to it all year.

if you are ever looking for someone to go out with shoot me a PM. I frequent that area often. Is he north or south of the 17? I have been slowly making new friends and finding new places to go hunting in that area.

I once had a supervisor who gave me grief whenever I took a week off to hunt, which I did at least several times a year. He'd figure out how much it was costing me in lost wages (hourly-paid union thug, as Rob would say...), and then grill me about the cost of guns, ammo, gear, gas, etc. before coming up with a total that he somehow thought would make me see the foolish mistake I was making.

I found it funny that a non-hunter would think this way; I am flabbergasted to hear hunters using this same logic in this thread!

Thank you Arclight for getting there ahead of me. The license fees have risen steadily, though not by too much, every year. I wouldn't mind so much if the money went to the MNR for wildlife management and staff equipment like it was supposed to, but to hear that those Lie-beral A-holes have raided the piggy bank and boosted the money (I heard 70 million) and pissed it away like they always do on some other brainless bit of lib left stupidity........well that just torques me no end.

My cost break down is looking like this for this year.

Outdoors card not included because it isnt expired yet.

Non resident fees for hunting in ontario
Small game 121
Spring turkey 29
Deer 242

So to get a chance at a turkey and a deer this year it will cost me close to 400 dollars in fees alone. I have no idea how many hours i will get to actually hunt but its worth it to me. Sure, itd be great if i had land in quebec to hunt to keep my costs down but it is what it is. Just happy to get some free time to spend hunting with my buddy for turkey and then deer with my dad! :)
