Ontario Black Bear hunting Guides??

Hello,

I am strongly considering looking for a guide in Ontario with a proven track record. I have done a bit of research and found a lot of guides priced in the 1000$+ range. I am not concerned with maid service, fancy meals, and pampering. What I am looking for is a reasonably priced outfitter for a couple days 3-5 to show me the ropes and hopefully get onto a bear. Basic lodging (whether this is a tent) warm meals, and an experiences person is really all I am looking for.

Just thought I would ask the CGN community if they had any leads or have come across such a person or perhaps fit this description themselves.

I hunted several times with Don Houston, owner of Horseshoe Island Camp near Matachewan. Comfortable cabins, you cook your own food, very competitive pricing. They assign you a string of baits, show you the ropes, and after that it's up to you to replenish and check baits (bait provided). Baits are reached by road or boat. Decent fishing. I took two bears with Don's outfit, including my first one (small) and a much larger one a few years later. He helps you get the carcass out of the bush if you need assistance, then you gut/skin back at camp. Freezer for meat/hides. I haven't hunted with him for a number of years now, only because I travel to hunt infrequently and prefer new experiences. I still see him at the Sportsmen's Show each year.

The price is right because you do a lot of the work yourself, which makes the whole experience much more interesting. I'd recommend his outfit.
 
i worked for an outfitter baiting a couple summers back but i know all the guys personally still. basic stuff you bring your own food, atvs, etc, they provide the cabins and wut not. they show you where the baits are and they are for the most part all accessable by road. if the two guys are booked up they have a partner that might be able to book you in the same BMA.they actually have a gang that comes every year from sweden they loved it so much. good hunting theyll put u on the most productive baits. they have a good success rate. i personally hunt in the same area so i know my self the bears are plentiful. go to b2outfitters.com or send me a private message i can can get u a home phone number so u can speak with them personally.
 
I've got one opening for the late fall area "Bracebridge" $500.00 for 4 days all baits are active and last fall we were 100%. Over 20 years experence and I just started to offer only a couple hunts a season.
