I want to apply for the controlled deer hunt, and I have a question about how I select which WMU's I want to hunt in. I want to hunt in my local wmu (91A) but I may want to hunt in 2 other areas as well. When I phone in my application will it let me select multiple areas? I assume I will need a tag for each area?

Thanks

No you get your main area and one alternate. If you are not chosen for the main one you are put in a draw for the alternate. You still are not guarenteed a tag. You may get washed out for both choices

These are the only area choices you get, you only get ONE tag for the draw although there may be extra tags available at a latter date

Yes you get one main choice and one alternate. I suggest you READ the hunting regulations for all the details.

BUT if you do get drawn for a controlled hunt, that does NOT, repeat NOT give you an extra tag. All it gives you is the opportunity to hunt in that WMU during the controlled hunt season, and you MUST have a valid deer tag (your general deer tag) to do so, or at least one member of your party (if party hunting) MUST HAVE A VALID TAG.

oops, hit the caps lock there, but the emphasis is OK anyways.....

I see that there will be extra tags available for WMU 91A if you do get drawn, looks like up to two per hunter. They are on sale starting 15 Oct at that impossible 1-800 number.

Good luck!

Yep, the Controlled Hunt application is just a permit to hunt. You need your regular tag or buy an extra one. If only one guy has a tag in your group, then you only shoot one deer.

A lot of people are under the impression that if you get selected to hunt in the Controlled Hunt, that you get a tag with that. Not so.

There is the chance that you won't get selected to hunt, but have kept your regular tag. Then its bow hunting for you.
