Well another great hunt. My luck has been pretty good lately. Today I got myself a nice big healthy male. He fell to my .223 thirty five minutes after I began my calling sequence.
My son had to go to cubs tonight and my wife needed to go to the mall so with nothing for me to do for a few hours, I decided to head out for a quick hunt. I got the gear loaded and off I went. Knocked on the land owners door, dropped off some whine and home made sausage…um good… and off I went. I have been here a few times this year but no coyotes this season until today. I got setup just after 7pm and started calling at 7:10… Today I used both my hand calls and my e-caller to get this guy in. I placed my e-caller about 30 yds ahead and to the left of me. Started off with a few hand call howls and then went to screaming rabbit. I went back and forth between e-caller and hand calls. About 30 mins went by before I notice a stump that was not there (300yds out) a few seconds ago. I put my binos up and sure enough it’s a coyote leaving his mark. He was very cautious and stuck to the tree line all the way in until he was about even with my call. He came in very slow and took a good 5 mins or more before he got into a good position to take him. He must have felt something was up because instead of heading into the call/decoy he went behind it, I am guessing to try and get downwind. Before he could get downwind of me I wolfed him and he stopped. I put it through his chest at about 150 yds out. He spun around about 5 times before falling in his tracks. It was a very cool experience. Enjoy the pics…. Frank
