Just a "heads-up" to my fellow Ontarians who hunt the elusive whitetail! The antlerless draw is now active so you can apply to enter the draw as of March 2 and you have until June 2 (I believe). For me, the online link didn't work but I managed OK on the phone in system. If you don't have it handy, the number is 1-800-288-1155. Good luck to you all!

Just applied for my Antlerless tag. I can not print my deer license, as the website has it "pending". It will take a while to get used to the new "tag" system.

Will the system allow us to download to pdf and then print from our computer?

Yes it will. I have a PDF of the license summary that I have printed - each license also has a QR code beside it. I have bought a deer tag and entered the antlerless lottery - but it is "pending". I assume I will be able to get a PDF of it once the antlerless lottery is over.

Your license is now on your license summary, which you should get in an email immediately.

The tag wont be available until after the draw in August, just like the old system

One day I will see a deer again during the deer hunt during the daytime and within 300 meters..... Moose like to show up regularly during Deer season and the deer the opposite as they seem to have each hunting season on their calendars. Last year the only deer I saw were 2 sets of eyes at about 11pm.

Last year we went up for the second week (WMU56) since we've often been skunked during week 1. Either it was too warm, or the rut hadn't started, or whatever, but we'd been mostly unsuccessful. My buddy's property doesn't have a resident herd, but there is lots of traffic across his land although mostly night traffic. During the rut, however, it's a different story. Lots of scrapes, rubs, fresh sign, and a lot of activity since no one else hunts there but us 2 so they're not all spooky. Last year, for the first time I actually heard 2 bucks sparring in the bush, the weather was cool, we had some snow, and everything was perfect for the rut. Guess what? By the last day, the rut still hadn't started! Fortunately, my buddy was on his watch and a lone buck came ambling through. He nailed it, so we weren't skunked but I don't have any idea when, or even if, the rut started there last year. This spring during our work weekend, we saw does, a young buck and a turkey hen. Also, having talked with some locals, nobody got doe tags last year even though everyone up there had seen lots of does. What gives?

For the first time in 3 years i finally saw a buck last season. Sure, it was just a big head with giant antlers screened by a ton of brush, but i saw him and i know he exists. It was with maybe 10mins of legal light left but i am proud that even tho i saw his head, it NEVER crossed my mind to blindly shoot at where i thought his body was. It proved that my ethics were intact lol

They are out there, congrats to all those who have felled one. I take solace in knowing i am 2/3 for turkeys since many hunters i know have never gotten a turkey but have gotten deer lol
