Ok just something I thought about recently. When does your Ontario Deer hunting licence officially expire? Here's the scenario, and please don't punish me if this has been discussed before.

It's October, I go bowhunting and manage to take a nice buck in the zone I was hunting in. My tag is filled.
However I am a member of a hunting camp in a different zone and would like to hunt during the opening week of gun season. Would I be legally allowed to hunt in the party even though my tag has been filled? I understand party hunting but thought this might be an issue. Of course I wouldn't expect to have my tag available to be filled as it already has been.

Party hunting will be fine in this case, just means you have to be able to communicate with whoever has the tag. I have party hunted deer and filled my buddy's antlerless tag 2 years in a row as I wasn't lucky enough to have an antlerless tag when the doe stepped out in front of me. Happy hunting!! Quite looking forward to bow season myself.

Yes you can legally party hunt with that camp, your just one tag short.
In our camp if you can't bring a tag you wouldn't be welcome!
Think about it, unless your in a zone with multiple tags available, if every one in the camp went pointed stick hunting & got a deer there'd be no camp hunt, why should some-one else have to supply you with an extra tag?

Wow....glad I'm not part of your crew.

We have a couple guys every year that have filled their tags during the bow hunt....they are still very welcome.

They shoot bears/push bush/drag deer/cook meals/split wood/handle dogs/drive boats/skin and hang/share expenses as well as the guys who still have tags left.

I guess for some guys it's "all about the individual".....and in my experience camps like yours are where you hear "If you see a doe don't shoot it, the antlerless tag is in MY name!"

Our camp is about spending a couple weeks with friends and enjoying the hunt. I'm not about to turn down hunting with a friend because he doesn't have a tag left......and if he fills my tag? Fantastic! It's a deer on the pole, I don't give a f**k who pulled the trigger, hanging meat is hanging meat....success of the camp is more important than the individual.

We share the work, the tags, the meat, and the experience...and we are all better for it.

Same here
For my friends and I, hunting is 30% about the meat, 70% about the social aspect
We go out lots of times, never even fire off a shot, but we always have some good laughs

Check with your local MNR, there might still be extra tags in your area that you can use for bow season. Other than that, you can still party hunt.

That is some sad ####!

Hell my group is always looking for more guys to push bush, and we split everything up anyways. A couple less steaks, and some sausage aint gonna hurt any of us.

We encourage any and everyone to come out and see if they can be talked into joining us next year with a tag assuming they are nice guys.

More Fudds, discouraging others from this sport, is not gonna get us anywhere in our fight against the anti's.

^^^^^

If I ever lose my deer spot, I will come knocking on your door......hehehehehe

but ya I agree, just cause a guy don't have a tag, don't mean he can't join in, he just might be the lucky guy to take one down, and I with my tag might not, wrong place wrong time type of deal....ya know

agreed. our camp party hunts every year. we all have radios and we all know how many tags we have. when the antlerless results come in, we don't say i got a doe tag this year, we say our camp has 6 (this year;)) doe tags this year. It is perfectly legal and at our camp perfectly acceptable to walk into a camp with no tag as long as you have a liscence. we all do the grunt work.

Im glad to see senior is the minority here.

####...that young guy without the tag will probably be the one dragging the deer for the old guys like him.

I'd love to be part of that camp for a hunt..."whaddaya mean "help me drag this deer"? It was YOUR tag, you drag it. It's only 2 kms to the boat" ;)

Tag or no, if you are willing to share the work we are willing to share the harvest.
