Ontario Hunter Education Cost??

Hey Guys,

I'm starting to feel dumb.... or like maybe the ontario MNR doesn't really want me to hunt, (or maybe the OFAH which for some reason is in charge of administering the program... wtf)

How much should I be budgeting for the Ontario hunter education program? My wife and I both have our PAL and RPAL, so we just want to take the hunter education part...

And unlike the CFSC, there seems to be no real information about cost online, unless I am dumb... which is possible.

Any help appreciated, probably won't make it out for this season, but I'd really like some venison next year!

Matt

The one I almost signed up for (before I called the MNR and found out I was still in their system after a few years of not having my outdoors card) was going to cost me $193.75

Bleh... Guess the MNR really doesn't want me to afford to hunt...

Thanks for the help guys, glad I am not that dumb... I was worried it was something like the CFSC where the price is fixed... Well, actually now I kinda wish it was like that, with a fixed price.

So how much does a poaching license run these days? (kidding!!)

Matt

EDIT:

Forgot to ask, is this the sort of thing where I can read the book and pass the test? I think I read it correctly that you can challenge the exam once? At 70 multiple guess questions, I think I'd probably do ok...

i believe u can only challenge when you have a license from another jurisdiction

EDIT: Yes i was right...

Ontario residents applying for their first Ontario licence to hunt, and residents who cannot provide proof of having held a hunting licence after January 1, 1968, must complete Ontario's Hunter Education Course (OHEC) and pass the examination.

To obtain hunting accreditation, a new Ontario resident, who can provide proof of resident hunting licence accreditation from any jurisdiction, may attempt the OHEC examination without taking the course. If unsuccessful, the course must be taken before attempting the exam again.
