Ontario Hunter - New to CGN

Hello,

I'm new to CGN -

I just recently got into the bird dog world when I purchased a new Pudelpointer pup in January.

I've been training him with a number of people in Ontario and Michigan and plan on running him through his NA test in NAVHDA end of August.

Ideally, and with any luck, I'd like to have him get his Utility prize in another year or so.

I'm in the market for a break-action double - NAVHDA requires them and most people see them as easier to identify as safe in the field.

My search to find one brought me here!

Welcome aboard! Hopefully you'll be able to get into the EE asap,

Not to hijack your post, but where did you get the pudelpointer? Do you find he's high-strung/lots of energy?

I purchased my Pudelpointer from Packmaster Gun Dogs in Michigan.

He's been an absolute dream of a dog.

Ton's of natural ability, really high game drive, and he's got a great on/off switch.

I have three young children so temperament was very important to our family.

You really have to look around, meet the breeder, meet the dogs being bred and find the right match.

If you're looking for a Pudelpointer, NAPS and NAPPA are good organizations invested in the betterment of the breed. That's a great starting point for looking for breeders.

Thanks for the information!

We have similar concerns here, with the temperament, and being hypoallergenic is a big plus too.

Best of luck with the tests and I hope you're able to find a break action shotgun soon!

Depending on where you are in Ontario, I've had good luck with Tillsonburg Gun shop, Triggers and bows (Norfolk/Brantford area) East Hill Outdoors (Orono) and Oley's Armoury (Powassan)

All reasonably priced new and used, and a good selection!

I appreciate the recommendations!

I'll take a look and see what they have in their inventory.

If you have any Pudelpointer questions feel free to reach out.
