Anyone hunt up near Hearst?

We're in 25 this year, and wondering if anyone knows what roads to take in there from Hearst?

(I spoke with a couple guys about this before, but I think they were on fly-in hunts.)

let me guess...... unsuccesful in the draw, you decided to call and you've got the 25.....

I'd say the train is the only way in....

I can make you a map if you pm me your email addy if you want. I can see a few old logging roads going there. But not much.

There are 2 roads in (or there was before the big storm we had). Fushimi road and then about 30km of loggin roads (if they still exist) will get you there or hwy 583 Ritchie Road and then about 30km of logging road (if they still exist).

My suggestion is charter a plane in because its gonna be no fun cutting your way in those roads with all the blow downs.

Oh yeah, You could go in by boat, but I wouldnt suggest that without a guide either.

Way to easy to get lost in all theose converging rivers and if your boat breaksdown you have now entered the life or death realm of circumstances. Plus without some serious boat driving skills and some big river experience you may not even get in there to hunt.

Storm??

Flying isn't an option as we just spent the whole summer building a bus for our camp.

Any idea as to how far the border of that WMU is from the main highway at Hearst?

Actually, we went in the draw for 25. Besides limited access, seems like a pretty decent place to hunt.

I'm a little concerned about this storm I'm hearing about though...

well everyone seems to say that this place is remote..

must be good place to hunt then?

Might be... It's our first time up there. Pretty sure there's moose from what I've been told. I've spoke with a couple successsful hunters up there that went in via float plane to some very remote locations.

I'm assuming hunting pressure is low as there is very, very limited access. We're bringing up in the bus, but will have quads, boats etc...and alot of tread on the hunting boots!! I'm getting the feeling that we'll probably set up camp, pair up with all the backpacking gear, compass', food etc and say "See you in a few days!"

Hopefully we won't get too lost....but hey....that's part of the fun right!! As long as I have my .308,:ar15: I don't worry too much. If I was seriously lost, I can easily survive with the rifle.....hell....I'll eat squirrels if I'm hungry enough!

At any rate, in light of some of this information, I'm actually more excited now as it should be more of a challenge!!

I was up there a few years ago. We headed up Fushimi Road up through WMU 24 and into 25. Back then 25 had about 8km of road thats it and a few trails which really didnt go anywhere. There was supposed to be some river nearby I think I came close one day on the 4 wheeler but I couldn't get any closer since it was really wet. Moose moved at night, went travelling for calves into 24 and seen a bull......go figure. The only sign of life I saw was a Red Fox and some Mergansers...lol There were tree stands put up as well and when your atop a Birch tree and a breeze picks up you know it!
There were roads being built farther north so I assume the country side looks a lot different than it did back then

That was the last moose hunt I went on with my group before I started college....

From my research, there seems to be : coniferous forest, swamp and muskeg. I'm wondering how hard the trek through is by foot? We have quads/boats/canoes etc....but can it be walked?

Apparently it's been very hot and dry this year, so water levels are decreased.
