Hi All,

I took the plunge and bought a dog. It is called a "GoldenDoodle", half golden retriever and half poodle (I have alergies so I needed a poodle cross to help make the dog non alergenic).

I'd like to start it on hunting training and I was wondering if anyone offers a course in Ontario. Or alternatively if there are any good books on the subject...

Frank Ducross up near Maxville does this (retriever training) professionally. I will try to get a number for you.

If you are looking to train a dog to chase game rather than retrieve it, I think you need another skill set. (I am not a dog guy.) There is a dog trial and training area near Kingston Ontario where you can run your dog in a very large enclosure (several hundred acres, I understand).

And I bet a google search would turn up ZILLIONS of articles relevant to your request.

Yeah that is kind of the problem, too many results for something that is very geographically specific. I don"t want to have to drive to Texas for training.

I'd love Frank Ducross' contact info if you find it. Kingston is not too far from me...

Golden doodle?????

Ive seen these dogs at a pet store, no offense I respect the allergy thing but why not go with a different breed like a German short haired pointer etc?
There are hunting dogs that dont require Clairiton.You just need to look and ask. That being said you have your doodle now see how it goes. Im also told that because these are "Designer" dogs you should ask a vet about special diet etc, as Ive been told that skin allergies in the breed are common. FYI. :)

Hey we just got our Golden Retriver too, this is our 2nd dog Remington passed away (Liver failure) so now we have Sonny Crockett or Crockett as we call him. No Ferrari but the chicks dig him.:p

A lot of people recomended standard poodles when I asked gunnutz back in july:

I decided on the poodle / golden retriever mix because of the breath of fresh air the gene pool gets with a first generation cross.

If poodles and golden retreivers are both good hunting dogs you have to figure that a mix of the two can't be all bad.

Golden Doodles are great dogs... Very smart, and more agile than a a golden retreiver (std)
and they are hypo allergenic and shed a fraction of the retreiver
