Ontario hunting with a rifle that has a folding stock

Hey guys~not sure which forum this question belongs in...but I think I picked the right one! I was at the range today testing some hand-loads for my new XCR and I struck-up a conversation with another shooter on the line. I mentioned that (since it's non-restricted) that I was planning on doing some varmint hunting with the XCR and he was under the impression that you couldn't hunt in Ontario with a rifle that has a folding stock. Anybody here know whether or not that's the case? XCR's are non-restricted and even when folded, the rifle exceeds 26" with it's almost 19" barrel. I usually don't ask a regulations-based question until I feel I've made a reasonable effort to find the information myself. I did, and I found nothing that mentions it. (digital version of the Ontario Hunting regs., plus, a few searches here on CGN)

Hoping someone here will have a definitive answer, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I was hoping the reason I couldn't find it was because it wasn't there. Anyone else willing to chime-in to back this up, would still be appreciated.
 
Where the hell do people get this stuff?

non restricted... means not restricted to use on approved ranges only,

so legal to shoot anywhere it's legal.. for any legal use. Hunting is a legal use.
 
I've been told all sorts of things at ranges in gun stores. Lots of BS. :) It's usually just easier to try once to tell them they are wrong, and when they insist, you just nod, smile- and say "I'll keep that in mind" :)
 
Thanks guys...didn't SOUND right to me. (was a nice fellow though!) Got the loads sorted out, reloading today...dreaming of when the hay gets cut. Groundhogs won't know what hit them! :)
 
yup if it is classed as Non restricted and the stock doesn't make it restricted (OAL folded must still exceed the Minimum) you are good to go.. Not too many times will you see a C.O. that will question it if it isn't obviously too short. I hunt with a "rifle" that is only 24" for small game but is classed as Non restricted from the RCMP and have talked to a few C.O.'s while out and even though I had this in a drop leg holster they still didn't question it.

That's not totally true....A semi auto shotgun can legally hold 5 rounds, that doesn't means it's legal for all hunting uses

"...almost 19" barrel..." Doesn't have to be 19". Over 18.5 is enough. Has to be a .223 in some places though.
 
No! Absolutely not! It may not be illegal, but don't you know that folding stocks make guns DEADLIER? So do pistol grips, flash hiders, bayonet lugs and the color BLACK! Listen to the sage advice of noted gun expert/Fudd Miester Joe Biden-buy a double barrel shotgun and just fire two blasts into the air! Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!
