On page 27 of the hunting regs it says:

A hunter who kills a fur bearing mammal shall not abandon the pelt or
permit the pelt to be spoiled or destroyed.

So my question is what are we supposed to do with mangy coyotes? It's my understanding that nobody wants those pelts.

Question is

Why are you killing them in the first place?
If your hunting for fur, you should at least try to use the pelt.
If your doing pest control, dont worry about it.

A sheep and cattle farmer whose land we hunt deer on has been having problems with them and asked me to give it a try. I've always been one of those 'eat what you kill' kind of guys but I figured I'd at least give it a shot, we've been hunting there for a long time.

farmers can assign people for pest control.

Go to town, your not hunting for the fur

I do the same at my father in laws.

I think the key term there is "hunter." If you are shooting said "fur bearing animal" for pest control purposes, you can let it rot. Case in point, you can shoot and kill a beaver legally, but if you take the pelt you have to notify MNR. Also, you cannot legally trap it without a license, you must hire someone to do that.

What would you do with a coyote or fox that has rabies are you going to skin them. A coyote with mange is sick and will pass the mange to other animals before it dies from hypothermia. We found 7 in a bush with mange, shot 6 of them and found one that died on its own with no fur on its body.

My father in-law in SoAB mentioned that the Huderites bag the carcas, air tight, and wait for the fleas and other insects to die, then they harvest the pelt.
