Well, all my shotguns are clean, polished, lubed and ready! My 4 year old beagle is putting on her winter coat in anticipation. Any others ready for late September?

Last year I was standing at a crossing point-had 5 cross at max 30 yds. First one, no shot-got the second-while reloading the O/U 2 more crossed and then missed the 5th! So much fun-any stories? Numbers were just so-so last year but I have read that populations are in high swing...

Where in SO are you hunting? I only got out twice last year, but found it was slim pickings. Actually saw way more turkeys than bunnies. I'm in Norfolk county.

I gave up on using shotguns for rabbit when I was a kid and got my first one. Body shot. My teeth still hurt from that meal:rolleyes: I only use .22 now. Way more fun IMHO. Scare it up, let it run, then slowly stalk it and take the shot from 30 or 40 yards. :) such fun!

Truth be told though, 80% of my rabbits have been taken with .308 and 1oz slugs on the way back to deer or moose camp after an unsuccesful hunt.

Well, I'm not in Ontario any more but I hunt bush bunnies here in NE Alberta. Just as I did in in my past in Saskatchewan, Ontario and Nova Scotia. Lately I usually use one of three shotguns: SKB O/U in 20 gauge, and Ithaca M37 in the same gauge, or the brass barrelled reproduction flintlock blunderbuss in 10 gauge. I really look forward to this time of year and a game bird licence is purchased for when I stumble across ruffed grouse. The less tableworthy spruce grouse I never bother shooting.

The year before last I was using a Ruger 10-22 one early evening. The nitrogen leaked out of the scope seals and I was left with a pretty useless hunting rifle as I had no means of dismounting the faulty scope. I personally counted 11 rabbits that evening through my binos. The most I've ever seen at this one spot in one go. And I came home empty handed!

.22 is the way to go for me. That being said, I haven't hunted rabbits in many years. The way hockey's looking this year, I doubt I'll get out much this year neither.

Rabbits for our gain has been the staple to get outdoors every weekend (minus deer and coyote dedicated hunts). We usually pick up some grouse and late fall woodcock as well. Waterfowl is in the mix this season which is new-most likely highly addictive, I assume...

Was just up in biscotasing. Lots of snowshoes running around. Bet I saaw 15 in a week. I wasn't hunting them though. Nothing is more fun then using beagles and/or basset hounds to chase bunnies.

I'd never let anyone carry a 22 while hunting over my dog though. When not using hounds rimfires are great though
