Hey guys, I'm looking for a place to hunt turkey this spring in Ontario. I'm in the military and I'll be in Borden (again :bangHead:) for the whole turkey season. Thing is, I'm a non-resident, I'm posted in Quebec and I have to take the Ontario turkey class, get my hunting card plus small game tag then my turkey tag which isn't a problem really however expensive. So I'm looking for a little help from you guys to find a reasonable priced place to hunt turkey or even better free if you know anyone who's got problems with overpopulation.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Ray

Ray, you can buy the DVD and do the course online now. Every year they do have a two day course in Barrie in April which is close by. Give me a shout,PM , email whatever when you get here and we'll go out. I live 10 minutes from Borden. You also have turkeys on Borden that the Rod and Gun Club runs.

As for birds in the areas being over populated, its far from that here as the population is very low in this area and most have private properties locked up.

Thanks for all your answers guys! Sorry it took me a while to read them, Cuba was calling me, I had to get out of this snow for a while lol

There is an instructor that runs a class at Borden very nice guy. Not sure of spots for hunting around there but there are a couple place out the other side of the lake

seeing as there's tons of public land in southwestern ontario, i'm thinking there should be more of it in that area? i'd fire off an email to the MNR and/or OFAH to see if they could help.

glad to hear you can now do the turkey course *cough*money grab*cough* online at home. it's about time...

Yes it's *cough* * cough* situation but you needs to watch the DVD and go to an instructor and take an exam.

Free of charge btw but DVD is some where $40 and all the siblings and spouses have to have different DVD - Biggs

So I too hope to do my first hunt/Turkey hunt this spring. I am taking the OHEP and Turkey exam in a few weekends.
Since this is the first time hunting (I have used my shotgun extensively for Trap/Skeet) would you guys recommend going out with an Outfitter/Guide?
My only reservation is the fact that the ones I have found online seem to charge $300 for the day, which in my mind is a bit much...but since i'm a total noob may be worth it?

Yeah... We'll I figured I wouldn't have to do any turkey course since I passed the one in Quebec and have all my hunting cards. I guess paying the 200$+ small game tag plus the 25$ turkey tag isn't enough lol. But in the end turkey hunting is my favorite after deer so I wouldn't miss it this year for only a couple hundred bucks!

Scruffee, If I were you, I'd take Adrian up on his offer asap. He is a great turkey hunter/guide & will put you on birds if anyone can. I wish you good luck in your turkey hunt, & thank you for your service to our great country!

No YouTube hard, if you have a spot to hunt don't bother with a guide, where about a are you planning on hunting, hit me with a pm I don't want to clutter this up too much but as a pretty new turkey hunter I can probably lead you in the right way like I have done (5/6 turkeys tags filled so far... Booyeah)
