This Tom caught on my Game camera 31 March 2016 East of my home.

I just had a big Tom cross the road in front of me on the way to the range this morning. There seems to be quite a few around.

I am sure I saw a dead one on the side of the 407 at McCowan on Friday. I know they are pretty far south in York Region but that seemed really far south.

There are number of birds in that area - early mornings I've observed a few at McCowan Rd between Denison and 14th Ave.

I'm suuuuuuuuuuuper-stoked. My 13 year old daughter just finished her CFSC, her OHEP, and her wild turkey course/exam. I'm no fortune teller but I have a funny feeling she might be coming down with a cold 3 weeks from now and have to miss a morning of school. I'm not worried though as I suspect she will learn more from half a day in the field with her dad than she will probably learn in a week otherwise.
Her birthday was last month and I gave her a slate/pot call - most mornings since then I wake up to the sweet, sweet sounds of her practicing. Bird or no bird, the 2016 wild turkey season has already been a success for me :)
And here is a pic of her showing off a birthday gift from her uncle:

I just got told I have TOO MANY vacation days in the bank at work and have to use some up soon.
Just booked off the entire opening week.. hopefully it doesn't take that long to bag a bird.

Counting down the days.

My son started turkey hunting at 12 years old... he missed that whole "week" of school... and took a nice Tom on the third day... you will never regret time spent together in the woods compared to "and yet" another day of school... good luck... I hope she shows up dad...

He has switched over to bowhunting for turkeys the past few years;

^^^^ awesome guys!..... Unfortunately, my young lad only turns 12 on May 6th, so he won't be eligible until then and still needs the course to get registered for apprenticeship..... But he has accompanied me many times and like your son Hoyt, he has had the "avian flu" many times over the years...... He is a sickly young lad, poor guy.... He is also prone to buck fever.... Poor thing....

I'm hunting WMU 45 and there's still about 8 inches of snow in the camp driveway, looks like they won't be nesting early up here, which is good in a way I guess to call in some active Toms.
