Maybe I'm way behind the news here but I just recieved an email back from the MNR about a question I asked about wolf hunting.

Apparently now, to hunt wolves in most northern Ontario WMU's you must buy a $10 resident wolf seal or $250 non-resident wolf seal. (limit of 2 per year) No hunting wolves from April to Sept.

Southern Ontario is excluded, so coyote hunters need not panic.............yet.

Is it just me or does anyone else find this to be a real piss off. How many more time are these morons going to bow to the pressure of anti-hunting groups. (Keep in mind this is also one regulation the OFAH went along with)

I think my line in the sand has just been drawn. No wolf tag for this hunter, ever. I see more wolf sign in the bush around here than I do any other critter, no joke. All this because some neddle #### biologist at queens park cant see any wolves from his office window so assumes they must be near extinction.

What's next, rabbit and squirrell tags. Why do I bother with a small games licence anymore.

Rant off

You ever notice how scoiety is evolving. More specifically how "man" is evolving. Maybe I'm generalizing, but for the most part, we're turning into a bunch of pussies!
What happened to the "manly man"??!! Where did that guy go? You know, the big, burly one that DIDN'T carry and "man purse" and clip his eyebrows! The one who drank beer at the "Tavern" on Friday and got a little rowdy once in a while!
It sickens me so to see manhood being flushed down the toilet. I think it's caused by all the political-correctness thats force-fed to us now. And atop the disgrace to the north american male species, it's doing detramental harm to the society! You can't say "Merry Christmas" at the office, you won't hear the Lord's prayer at a public school, and heaven forbid you tell someone at work to go **uck themselves!
Don't dare slap a lady in the ass anymore either! Good grief, you could go to jail for those types of shinannigans.
Don't get me started on the environmentalist-tree hugger types!
Are men ever going to be men again?? Guys who chopped trees, and swore and slapped the wife in the ass when he got home!
Or will men continue to be pushed and persuaded by tree-huggers, Armani man bags, eyebrow clippers, immigration, political correctness..etc...etc...etc.. the list goes on.

Anyway, sorry...you got me on a rant here!

I really don't think it will go further with the tags. I do understand where you are coming from, but I believe it has a lot to do with the guides. There are not a lot of livestock in the north as compared to the south and the need to remove the wolves/coyotes is not as great as in the areas where livestock predation is high. I think the government is trying to get more money out of the Americans who come up here to hunt wolves, I can't say I blame them but they are screwing the resident hunter a bit. This being said if they put the money back into wildlife conservation (not holding my breath) then it might be worth it, I have no problem showing my license to a CO on a rabbit hunt if it means less animals are killed by poachers, which occurs more often than most people like to think down here in southern Ontario. Anyway, when it comes to the manly men comments, that is why the hunt camp still exists, do what ever the hell you want, talk about what ever you want and nobody says boo. Oh, and you can slap that girls ass, if she agrees to it.

Maybe not a lot of livestock up here, but there are a lot of moose and deer that are going to pay a price because of these regulations. Actually they will be paying more of a price than they already are. Ask someone who is not from the MNR and knows the North and they will tell you that the wolf population is way up right now.

The moose and deer seasons bring quite a bit of money to the Northern communities. In contrast not to many people go hunting strictly for wolves here. (I know some do, butin comparison to bear/moose/deer the number is small)

Using hunting to keep the wolves in check is not easy. Especially with hunters having to pass a shot on "target of opportunity" wolves due to lack of a seal is not going to help those Moose and Deer populations.

If anyone up here will actually obey these regs is a different story. Resident will likey obey it as much as the "Dont shoot the nuciance bears" laws.

Just kinda chaps my ass that the anti's have essentially won another one.

Ask Me ! Ask Me !!!

Well .. you are a little behind "gth" ... but so was I about last May ! No one was notified of the "back door policy" that was brought to regulation in April. I'm an Outfitter in Northen Ontario .. about 3 hours north of you - and none of us were informed. Some of us had our bear hunts sold and advertised as "Bear / Wolf Combo Hunt". People must realize that the MNR are Anti Tourism and will continue to pass regulations to please whoever is offering big bucks ! Gee ... Anti's and Peta offers large cheques ! The major problem being - our Northern resident ... David Ramsey - Minister of Natural Resources - just seemed to go to Ottawa and stick his head in the sand ! We have organizations up here that wrote and called his office to complain about these Wolf Hunting regulations being changed - and to this day - he or his office has never answered anyone.
The population of wolves should be studied -THEN - a regulated season placed in WMU's that require it. My WMU's certainly don't ! In northern 28 and 40 - we're heavily over populated with wolves. I have packs of 10 run through my lodge property during the winter almost daily.

I walk outside in the winter - and there's a wolf standing 30 yards from me looking at me ... I go back in the house and take a walk with the .270 - and usually - that wolf is still standing in the same spot - staring at me. I find that 'threatening' especially when I have 4 kids - boom !

But - the $10 / $250 charges is just a money grabber for the MNR. They're broke - they need money - hopefully a ...

NEW CONSERVATIVE MAJORITY GOVERNMENT ... will help alot of things out.

Have a great weekend everyone ...

If you only knew how much I agree with 44 frody right now it's not even funny.

My daughters been on some crying, whining stop smoking daddy case for the last 2 days. Ya, I know smoking is not good but she's learning this at school. My nephew goes to Guelph U and gives me a hard time every deer season yet I tell him to go screw himself and send him pics of my hunt. It pisses me off to no end that these kids these days are following in the steps of treehuggers from days gone by. I've always gone by the rule " it's me thats gonna die when it comes for me to die so let me live life the way I want to".

Even if we win the fight against the liberals we've gotta deal with these pussy ass young buggers when they grow up and take over this country, there hasn't been a day go by where I've wanted to just wind up and punch that little college educated little bugger right in the yap for even talking about something he knows nothing of.

We've got our work cut out for us in the future guys, lets train our young ones the proper way, my daughters already hunt grouse with me and hopefully they'll be out n their stands come bow season when they get their licence.

You guys looking for someone to blame for this... look hard at OFAH... they could have spoken up for us hunters again... but failed. These cowtowers are walking hand in hand with the government and have sold us out repeatedly. Everything from the Spring bear hunt to the Gun Registryand the closure of the game farms... goddamn fishing club should not represent hunters!
Join CSSA or NFA or anybody but tell OFAH to stuff it.

BIGREDD ... Right On !

In a former career ... we had a saying about animal control ( coyotes & deer-running/sheep killing dogs in agricultural areas ) No one knows where "one" shot comes from ... and nothing beats a shovel & a closed mouth. Call "Animal Control" or the Humane Society or the Ministry for animal control ... forgetaboudit.

I'd be afraid to come back into camp with the guys I hunt with and say I saw a wolf and didn't shoot it. Last piece of "science" I saw in the Algonguin Region was "a deer per wolf per week."

Ever see an audited OFAH Annual Financial Statement ??? Always wondered about what portion of the money they raise goes back to "supporting" the rank & file hunters and anglers. Nice to see they "retired" their former CAO into his own fishing & hunting show. What a crock !

I know for a fact that very few tags for wolves were purchased in our area this fall. If the MNR (Ministry of NO RESPECT) really wants big game status on wolves the 10.00 tag is an insult to the animal. It costs more to pop a bunny. Oh by the way I can take all the wolves I want on my trapline (under my trapper's licence) and I have a way more means and opportunity to kill these critters than any moose or deer hunter has. It is another piece of crap attempt to manage wildlife by people who don't have a clue.
take care guys Darryl

Ofah

These guys suck! BigRedd was right they might be advocates for anglers but really...hunters are a different kettle of fish (Sorry)! I am told its 20-25 grand to produce one episode of Angler & Hunter tv. Show sucks anyways! Put that money into something worthwhile like our good friends who operate lodges with no spring bear hunt. Or maybe buy a building that doesnt cost several million dollars. Dont waste my money, I can do that! Take your kids shooting from an early age, get them involved and they will continue our legacy. Keep them away from the OFAH.

Sorry for the rant ....I just hate people who say there helping and there not!
