Ontario wolf question

In some parts of ontario a tag is required and in others it isnt. In the areas that have a tag its limited to 2 (coyotes/wolves) a year with a seperate tag for each. In many areas there is no season at all. In a large chunk of the province there is open season al year with only a small game liscence needed. Yes bait is allowed. Pgs 75-76 of the regulation book.

Also, there is a closed season in areas near Algonquin Park. I hunt south of these areas, which are restricted - tags, defined season, etc. As you get farther south, it becomes unrestricted. The regs dont differentiate between wolves and coyotes.

Exactly where in Ontario can you hunt wolves with just a small game lisc??
And where can you hunt them all Year?

WMUS 43-45 and 59-95. "The regulations of wolves and coyotes do not apply south of the wolves core range"
"In WMUs 43-45 and 69-95 only your small game licence is required"
Pg 76 table bottom line 43-45, 59-95 open season is all year.

When i posted the first post i had the reg book in my hand. And in all reallity it dont even need a small game since i shoot them under the livestock protection act.

Thanks Carew--I wondered about that--cause up here in the north we used to take them on a small game lisc. year round. Now with such a shortage of wolves I guess we have to have a special lisc and season.
What utter bull####!!

The reason is clear, in the south the coyote population is exploding and the predation on livestock is high, so they want the population to be reduced and therefore have no restrictions. In the north there are a lot less coyotes and a lot less livestock, so they put in the regulations to make some money off the Americans who come up here to tag a couple wolves, honestly I see no problem with this. Also, in the north of the province you were not allowed to shoot wolves all year round a few years ago either as small game licenses were not valid between June 1st and Aug 31st, so shooting anything in the summer unless protecting livestock or property was illegal. If you have having a problem with wolves or coyotes in conjunction with your livestock you can shoot them under the livestock protection act. This act also covers deer and any other game but there are different regs for deer, you need to speak with the MNR about them.
