Ontario yotes

Was chatting with a friend the other day and he was telling me there is a restriction in caliber for hunting yotes in Ontario.

If memory serves he said the bullet needs to be 275 or less. I guess that is diameter.
He wanted to know if he could use a 270.
I said I didn't know but if he did I don't think the pelt would be any good.

So can one use a 270 on yotes in Ontario?

I believe there are restrictions in certain areas of southern ontario. I have never heard of a caliber restriction in eastern ontario.

Certain townships in southern ON have a calibre restriction for small game hunting (which yotes fall under). It depends where he lives. Geographically speaking, most of the province has no restriction (I can hunt yotes with whatever non-restricted rifle I wish).

The exact quote can be found on page 79 of the hunting regulations. Also, even though it says ".275 calibre", a 270 Winchester (which has a an actual diameter of .277) is still fine to use.

A person hunting small game may not carry or use a
rifle of greater calibre than a .275-calibre rifle, except a
muzzle-loading gun, in the geograhic areas of of Brant,
Chatham-Kent, Durham, Elgin, Essex, Haldimand, Halton,
Hamilton, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, Niagara, Norfolk,
Northumberland, Oxford, Peel, Perth, Toronto, Waterloo,
Wellington or York.
