OOPS day at the range

Those cases look like it was a disaster waiting to happen. Granted that all the different nomenclatures can be confusing for non-gun-crank shooters, but it is still their responsibility to figure this stuff out. Scary.

Regarding 308 in 30-06 - I had read on internet that original design parameter for 7.62 was that it could be chambered and fired in military 30-06 rifles, if need be. The 7.62/308 shoulder is a nice snug fit in a 30-06 chamber, at that distance from the bolt face. I doubt that is coincidence, but could be...

This point was brought up in that thread as well, for emergency use 308 could be used, I didn't want to say it though since I didnt look up any info regarding that.

I've heard of this happening quite a bit, Guys running full 8 round enblocs of 308 in a 30'06 garand before! I don't know exact details but apparently some garands had an adapter to 7.62x51 that would occasionally come out with a spent piece of brass and the shooter wouldn't notice until he looked at his brass. I believe it got posted here years ago.

Looks like a fired case from a Oerlikon 20mm cannon:

I have told this story before.

A British gunsmith sent a bunch of rifle off to the proofhouse to test the new barrels he installed. 8 308s and a 25-06

The 25-06 came back, blown to pieces.

He found the remains of a 308 proof round in it....

In my junque I have a similar .308 case with a partial belt.

My theory is that it was fired in a .308 Norma Mag.

.308 is .308 right?
