I was celaning my m305 tonight and realised that my op ord guide has some slight movement left and right looking straight down at the rifle. I have another usgi barrel with op rod guide and this does not move at all.

My questions are: will this affect accuracy ? and how to fix it ? is it like this on all m305s - is it normal ? or just my one?.

thanks

You're talking about the 8 ring that holds the end of the op. rod centered to be hit by the piston? If it is loose, it will affect accuracy.

You have several options. You may try to drive a smaller expansion pin down through the original pin to expand it - this seems to work for most people. I shimmed mine by putting the shim in place and then tapping the guide down over it into location. Or you can knurl or otherwise raise the dia. of the barrel so the guide doesn't shift. Try the first option.

When you do the pin in a pin trick, you can also Loc-Tite it in place with Red Loc-Tite.This will hold it REALLY good!!!

Just a PITA to remove later on if you re-barrel.

It will affect shot to shot consistency. This problem is detrimental to top accuracy in these rifles.

As SKBY says......it will.

It's all about harmonics boys......bolt actions are solid......harmonics are always the same.

Semi's have lots of not so solid parts......add those together......poor accuracy.

NM Op-rod spring guides......offers consistant spring action and friction points........repeatability.

Loose op-rod guide.........movement, and poor harmonics......tighten this and there will be an improvement.....small as it may be.....but it will be more consistant and repeatable.

Fact.

well i gess your right it may mess up a compitishion shooter or someone who likes the very tite groupes but if you only use it for hunting or plinking a 2" group wont realy make any diffrence on a deer size animal.

Thanks for all the help guys, after trying the pin trick unsuccessfully, i stripped the rifle down and replaced it with a USGI op rod guide. Now nice and tight with no movement.

Now, put the loose norinco one away.....

Glad that you fixed it ! You could also have used a center punch to stemple the barrel . While this method is good,it is not as good as knurling. This is kinda like some of Hungry's welfare methods . Low cost ,but effective
