Open gun spring weight

Just curious what others are using for a recoil spring weight for 9major? And at what power factor.
Being that this gun would be built around the USPSA pf, of which i am shooting below(around 169pf average) would it not make sense to get a better and stronger cycle by reducing my spring say 1# less? That would also reduce slide mass no?

Hope you are doing well.

I had a new 9 Major built this year. Currently running a 7 lbs recoil spring, wolf variable, and I am shooting a 180 power factor. I can actually run the gun with a 6 lbs spring but the 7 feels better. I run the higher power factor to make the comp work getter, and this loads is more accurate then the lighter ones.

Running a lighter spring will not make the slide mass less.

Spring weight is subjective, one way to try out what works best is to get a few springs, I suggest a 7, 8 and 9, then try some double taps ( aim at a spot on a 7 M target and shoot as fast as you normally can) assuming the 1 st hits to the point of aim see where the seconf shot hits....if it is low then you can go to a lighter spring, if it is high then try a next heavier spring. You may need someone to spot the hits for you.

If you go to a light spring you need perfect ammo to be sure it will always cycle and feed the round in. if you run a shock buff and you should,( just 1) too light a spring can cause the buff to get beat up badly quickly.

Thanks to the both of you, i hope i'm not over thinking things. I will be getting some springs in various weights sent up and will then start to test the springs vs various pf loads to find what works. Never a dull moment with an open gun
At least i now have an idea of what to look for and test.
