I made it out to this one!
It was the first open house that the BCRA has held, and there were a few newbies there. Newbies to LONG range shooting, as done by the DCRA/BCRA, not neccesarily new to all shooting. I include myself as a newbie today.
Unlike last weekends Service Rifle event, today was not stinking hot. In fact there was a bit of rain. We were supposed to get a lot of rain today, but it was faily light, then stopped completely.
Anyway, there were lots of experienced guys on hand to help out us newbs. They really did a good job of making us feel welcome (unlike some snob shooters that look down their noses at new members).
We were paired up, and took turns firing at the targets. One shot, then the target drops, gets scored, and back up again. Then the other guy shoots.
I was paired up with Ian. (he is a CGN member, but seldom posts here)
I had hoped to bring along a friend (Tiwaz), and I tried to contact Baby Seal above, but no luck. So i went alone.
A match is supposed to be 3 distances (today it was 400, 500, and 600 Metres) with 2 sighter shots and 15 scoring shots per distance. Total of 51 shots.
As it was, I was not shooting for score, but I wanted to sort out a couple of guns at longer range. I have only plinked at short range (100 to 200 M) with my Lee Enfield and Norinco M14, so this was a chance to sort it out.
I put it at 400 Yards for the 400 M shoot, but it was way low, so I bumped it up to 550 Y,and taht seemed to work. It was just a matter of walking it onto the centre. I kept notes as I went.
Next was the Norc. It was suprisingly accurate. I got several V's (bullseyes) at the three ranges.
As I was flipping between the 2 guns, I didn't shoot a full 15 out of either gun at any range. Instead, I fired about 10 or so of the LE, was satisfied, with it, then went to the M14. and did another 10 or so.
Same thing at 500 M and at 600 M.
So I probably fired about 60 or 70 rounds today.
Great fun!
Tahks again to Ian, Peter, and to Rod/Unibomber for the loan of the spotting scope. And thanks to all those that made it so enjoyable.
