I would like to offer a polite suggestion. Presently, there are SIX (6) different monthly purchase threads stickied at the top of this forum, none of them are September's offering.

There are already far far too many stickies in the milsurp forum. It's cluttered and has become "only so much noise" to me, and I suspect to many others as well. It's a pain to have to scroll past all the chaff to get to new threads at every visit.

As a starting point to cleaning things up, may I respectfully request you please un-sticky the six stale purchase threads, and revert to only stickying the current month? We also have a pile of stickies for specific rifle types. How about a sub-forum of locked stickyied info threads where people can go to reference that material without having to scroll past 3 screens worth of stickies that are referenced very infrequently. The main page should be reserved for only the important administrative announcements and such, in my view.

This is not intended to be a flame, but things have gotten a little cumbersome and some cleanup would be much appreciated, at least by me, a humble user of the site.

Thanks.

HEAR, HEAR!!

Perhaps a, "Monthly Purchases" thread as stated, plus a, "Milsurps technical subforum" (which would include all the awesome stickied rifle reviews etc that are at the top of this subforum).

Might want to do a:

- Surveys subforum
- Tournament subforum
- Restoration subforum
- Milsurp ####/Pics subforum

Or just merge threads together?

Or just leave it as is??

Or....

Just un-sticky many of the redundant threads and let them sink into obscurity??

Yep! About 1/2 second to scroll through the stickies. Sure was hard and I think I wore out my finger.

Yes, let's all be happy with out of date stickies and mediocrity in general. Why rock the boat, right?

Why make anything better. Its a wonder we progressed past the matchlock.

I also believe there are way too many stickies.....and so many of them just are not relevant. You just have to look at the low number of views on some of them to realize that many do not have enough general relevance to warrant a permanent spot on the top of the first page. The search function should meet the needs of those who have need for some of the more specific subjects. Except Enfield related stickies of course. They should always be on the top of the first page.

I think Claven2 hit the nail on the thread.

I like the suggestion of one thread with links to pertinent threads within it.

While we're at, I would like to see this forum consider where they want milsurp pistols to go. They have no home currently. The members here are more in touch with milsurp pistols than the "pistols and revolvers" forum however the forum description seems to leave it open interpretation on whether milsurp pistols are welcome here or not.

If CGN wants to have a serious milsurp community here, I think they need to consider a few very simple changes.

I find it funny that some members will get an infraction for starting a Mod thread while others don't.

I don't see why the moderators wouldn't be open to serious suggestions and discussion for improvement. This isn't just a small personal problem, these are things that the majority of the membership agrees with.

There's something newer than matchlock? Where the hell have I been.

another thing I have noticed around the EE is when the item is sold they never get deleted. its frustrating to read a bunch of FS threads of items you are looking for, only to find out they are sold. I am an admin on a Canada wide Truck forum and I have one or two of my moderators clean up the calssifieds section on our forum once a month. keeps our members happy and classifieds clean and easy to use. IF any of the staff on CGN wants any ideas Im just a PM away.

I find when the seller marks the thread as "please delete" it usually is removed quickly.

Up until that point, the thread stays because of the sellers decision. Sometimes sellers like to keep the listing up on the forum until the deal is completed incase the buyer backs out.

This is probably something more suited to the general forum rather than the milsurp forum. But on this issue, I've never had a problem and I have made many listings on the EE but mostly in the milsurp/pistols/militaria categories.

I do feel your pain when something really nice you want sells before you get a chance to buy it though!

Way too many stickies in several forums and milsurp is the worst offender. Cut that crap down to size already, show-and-tell threads don't need to be a damn sticky.
