Hard beat IMHO, Williams Foolproof Receiver sight (FP)
(angle eject or top eject and a big bore model to choose from)and the Williams made Firesite, which is a smaller optical reddish colored bead to replace the factory brass bead up front.....Ensure with the blade you measure the heighth, there are different heights to choose from.
Be careful and use a hammer with brass drift, and use a padded vice, send to a gunsmith if these are too tight, or you do not have these tools.
PS There are blanks available too to fill the unsightly dovetailed slot on the barrel, the exact maker escpaes me now!
With this combination on a 30-30 Winchester Carbine,I cleanly took a big Alberta deer once at a distance, after a period of rifle range practice, using known distance targets.
I would verture to guess there are few carbines of this handiness for offhand shooting/acceptable accuarcy, and lightweight, for all day carry in the wilderness.
Cheers and good shooting.....
