Anyone out there got one of these? I am looking at purchasing a used one. I am not sure on year of the rifle. It is a bolt action with a detachable box mag. I think its a toz 17. The price is fairly low and the smith that owns it has always been honest and reasonable with me. Blueing looks good and the bore is o.k.

My main concern is the accuracy, durability, and availablity of parts. From what I gather it is russian made which usually means they are as tough as cockroaches. Is there any weak points that I should be looking for?

Also how is the trigger weight? The smith does not allow dry firing so I can't try it out.

Finally what is one worth? I don't want to post the price in case I'm getting fleeced.

i have Toz-17 for about a year now and i like it.not "i love it" but i like it.
a very decent shooter, trigger better than those on Mosins and IMO good iron sights.accuracy?1.5-2 inch on 100 with K8 Weaver and win dynaponts.only other ammo that comes close is Remy subsonic.
when i get hunting licence ill be taking it with me :)

Baikal rifles

I've always liked the Baikal shotguns and just recently bought a IZH-18MH single shot rifle in 30-06. It has the twist style barrel and is not too shabby to look at for $249.95! I can nail a 300 yd. steel pig with open sights more than I miss, so for the money I am happy. Trigger has a bit of creep but is fairly light. It could use a decent butt pad but aside from that it's a nice toy.

There was some scuttlebut about the Baikal double rifles coming out soon but I haven't seen one yet and you KNOW I just gotta get me one of them!!!

I just completed an email order transaction with them for a TOZ
MODEL 78, no problem whatsoever with getting a quick polite response/good service on my end.

yes, it's actually grooved for 11mm type mounts...

If you havent priced quality 11mm dovetail mounts yet. I would do so before purchasing a gun with this rail. I just put some on my Baikal izh-18. If I didnt get lucky and find a good set of steel rings from a friend it would have been about $75.

Sent two emails. Never got a response. Went to the local gun store and bought a slightly scratched marlin 925 for $200.00. I might still be interested in a toz for the wife if they ever respond.

Hi. You could always try emailing them here. The one who wrote me was Lena.
