I'm indecisive between getting a Colt Competition 9mm 1911 or the Walther made and Colt licensed Colt Gold Cup 1911 22LR. Technically, it is not a Colt. It was made entirely by Walther. The only "Colt" thing about it is that Walther paid a license fee to Colt to engrave "Colt Gold Cup" on the slide. It is a clone basically.

Really what I want is a pistol for plinking. 22LR ammo is relatively cheap (typically $8 for 50 rounds), versus 50 round of 9mm for $20 (S&B at my gun range).

Walther makes great handguns. My concern with their Colt 22LR 1911 clone is durability, and if anyone has had any serious issues with jamming. Not into running into a jam every time I load it.

Generally speaking, 22LR ammo is filthy so this pistol will need to be cleaned, and cleaned often. I have read a comment from one poster on Youtube that the Walther Colt is difficult to clean and certain brands of 22LR ammo should be avoided as they gum up the action. I've heard suggestions to use CCI 22LR's????

Another option is to go with the 9mm Colt Competition. Plus side is it is a brand new model from Colt, it is a "true" Colt, and I've heard good things about it. Only issue is the ammo is double the cost of the 22LR. Not exactly a plinking gun.

I've been told that the best 22LR handguns are the Ruger models. Tried, tested, and true. On price, the Ruger models in Blue-steel compared to the pricing of the Walther Colt Gold Cup is about $70 cheaper. However, the Ruger is rather unspectacular and reminds me more of a Crosman pump-pellet hand-pistol (American Classic) I purchased back in 1992 as a teenager.

Anyone here have any experience or own any one of the 3 Walther Colt 1911 22LR's? I believe Walther came out with 3 versions. The one I have available for purchase is the Gold Cup version.

The Colt Logo is painted on the slide on mine.

Reliability is better than my old Kimber Rimfire Target which choked on pretty much everything but minimags. Some jams are inevitable with 22LR, however. I have not shot it as much as my M&P22 (which is now well above the 3.5k mark) but it is as reliable. Probably 1.5k to 2k rounds through it by now. You can generally shoot at least 500 rounds through it before the gunk makes it choke. Mine is absolutely filthy and only ceased to work when the firing pin spring broke.

Durability is good in general. The firing pin spring on mine has broken and I am now waiting for a replacement. The problem with these Walther rimfire pistols is support.

I recommend the Walther 22's because they work well and emulate the centerfire pistols well (last round hold open and ergonomics).

I just sold mine to a fellow nutter. It likes CCI and Winchester supreme ,all others cause jamming issues. The trigger felt a bit heavy). It is well made though , and has adjustable sights. It also only comes with one mag and extra mags are $50 and hard to find
I found it to be accurate with CCI.
