This was on the EE today : (WTT S&W 460V for HK USP .45), so I wanted some opinons on if this is a good trade. I purchased an HK USP .45 last year and still havn't shot it yet. I have 2 revolvers now, but the 460V looks pretty mean looking and I would think it's more rare than the HK. Value is about the same I think, but I've heard the HK is a nice pistol and accurate too. So what do you think, should I offer to trade? I shoot for fun and not a collector as much.

Just couldn't get any ammo localy and I havn't started reloading yet. I was planning on picking up some .45 APC this winter (actualy this weekend in Quebec City) so I could shoot the HK. The posting just got me wondering that's all. I think I will stick with the HK until I try it. I mostly have .40's right now, with a .357 Mag, 10mm, 9mm and a 22 Mag. I'm out of alot of ammo, so I need to go shopping, I picked up an AR also so need some .223's. I need to reload or it's going to cost me a bundle! Anyone shoot a .460 before? what's it like compared to a .45 ACP?

The 460V isn't rare, as such... I see them on dealer's shelves from time to time. I just don't think there is a huge demand for a hunting handgun in the Canadian market for obvious reasons.

If you are intent on only keeping one (I would suggest keeping both), then pick the one that you expect to do the most shooting with. Ammo cost, amount of recoil, being able to easily find and buy ammo, how fun it is to shoot, etc. will all factor into how often you will actually take the chosen gun out to the range...

The 460 is meant for hunting. Seeing as we can't hunt in Canada with handguns................ :)

I don't have have one, but have shot one. Heavy, huge size, loud and definitely not meant for plinking. It's got a definite "coolness" factor, but I think that would wear off pretty quick, especially with ammo prices.

How's it compared to a 45 auto? Kinda like comparing a 223 to a 460 Weatherby.

J...

 It's like shooting very powerful rifle with no stock. You will experience recoil that you never have before, with any handgun (unless you have shot a .454 loaded hot). Whereas the .45 is a nice shooting handgun that will have a heavier, but less snappy, recoil than the .40's that you are used to shooting.

Depends on what you're feeding it. You can can shoot .454 Casull in it for a lighter load, or for a really mild plinker you can shoot .45 Colt also. I believe it's 1/10 inch difference in case length between each one. Of course the .45 is loaded to a lower pressure too. If you get into casting and reloading you can play for cheap. As for the recoil, keep in mind that the pistol weighs somewhere around 4 lbs., so it probably won't be as hard on you as you think.
