I'm considering at getting a Stevens 200 in either .308 or 30-06. Can anyone that's used one of these guns let me know what they thought of them.

absolutely no doubt the least expensive, out of the box, straight shooting rifle. You can tune the trigger a bit, mod the stock and you've got a great shooter.

See a recent copy of "American Rifleman" for an explanation as to why these and Savage rifles are so accurate, its not an accident, its a plan, with sound logical explanations re headspace, bolt design and Savage philosophy!!

I have one the new centerfeed models in 22-250. I'm please with it. The machining is great. The blueing could be better, but most importantly is shoots tight groups. Buy it, paint the stock and don't look back.

Stevens 200

Had a previous one in 7mm-08 that I bought off one CGN'er and sold to another... maybe should've kept it but had other rifles in that ctg so one had to go.

Currently, have one of the new series Stevens 200's in .243 which just recently arrived in the mail. Put a NIB Simmons 4-14x40mmAO on it that I had sitting around. Econo scope for an econo rifle...lol..... Still have to put a round down the pipe, though.

Got one in .243. I love it. Shoot eveything from bunnies up to deer with it. My best so far is two deer at 350yds a week apart last year, one at 250yds this year.

We have two, one in 308, one in 243, both topped with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40 scope and BOTH are under 1 inch at 100 meters with factory ammo.

Just can't beat the value!

Cheers

After reading this thread and doing some research on the internet, I decided to look Stevens 200 for my first bolt action deer rifle. Walked into a Le Barron gun room in Toronto and ask the guy behind the counter if it is a good value (value= good + inexpensive). He says “ Well……it is cheap! Why would you want to by cheap? Spend a bit more and by a better gun”. Is this a valid point? Kind of confused.

Frontier has Savage 111 for a $100 more than Stevens 200. Is Savage a better value than Steve? I know both are made by Savage in the same factory.

The Stevens is essentially a Savage 10/110 with a lesser quality stock. The action barrel etc are the same. The only grief I have with mine is that the magazine is mounted to the stock rather than the action which makes upgrading the stock more difficult but there are some companies that make stocks specifically for the Stevens. Still an excellent value. It puts the bullet where you want it to go (unlike some lower end M's & R's I know of) :)
