I have been thinking about a Vortex Viper 3-9X40 BDC for my new .243 Savage Impulse predator that has an integrated 20 MOA picatinny rail...
Can I get away with low profile rings? Is there a big difference between standard ($40) rings and "pro" rings $120...?

Thoughts? is there a better option for similar budget? (~$500 for all). The viper 3-9x40 is on sale for $359 at lots of places..

Thanks in advance from a newbie to optics...

I always recommend this site to calculate what height rings you need:

Each scope ring manufacturer has it's own definition of ring height. You cannot really use low, medium, high or extra high across the board.

As to a scope, I highly recommend the Vortex 3-9x40 Diamondback Tactical, on sale at one of the sponsors here and free shipping. The Viper is $100 more and has more of the look of a hunting scope. Up to you.

As to rings. Buy from the same retailer to save on shipping. Vortex, Burris, Leupold, any will do. Around $80 or so should do the trick. You will need 1 inch rings.
