me and a couple buddy's are thinking of investing 3.5 million into starting our own Canadian ammo company.who would support it if we did indeed do it. im just trying to get a feel of the market so if im breaking rules im sorry.thanks and hoping to hear from everyone who would support a canadian rimfire ammo company instead of relying on the americans
 
I try to support Canadian companies over imported goods whenever possible, so this would make my ammo decision for me (as long as my rifle eats it).

Do this in the Lower Mainland (BC) and I would love a firearms-related career! I am sure many others would as well.
 
Same quality, same price, greater availability.. People will buy.
LOT of us are going lower quality, same price because we can't find any.
Do it South Western Ontario. I need a career change...

I would think that you would need a sound business plan along with financing. Opinions on an internet forum should not be the basis for a rather large business decision like that. I'd love to see a Canadian manufacturer. But I also think 3.5 million would not be enough capital to start up a manufacturing plant. Let alone marketing & distribution, staffing, regulatory (legal) issues, etc.. (land, taxes, waste....)

I agree. You can't make a decision to invest such capital because people on a forum would say they would buy. Right now anyone would say that with the current "shortage". But what happens when that shortage no longer exists? There is probably a fair bunch of red tape that would have to be dealt with. Unless you already have, you should maybe talk to prairie shot (Score Ammo) in Manitoba and see what kind of hurdles they had to over come. If you do take on such a venture, I wish you the best of luck.
 
Thanks for all your support and our research team is not relying on the opinion of those on the forum but we all love the support from the public,were going to try our hardest to get it up and running ASAP but it's gunna be awhile
 
are you a young fellow with a computer or is this a real possibility. I would think it would be hard to compete with cheap off shore labor. but what do I know I am just an old guy on a computer.. One thing I will say people won`t buy it just because it is made locally they will buy whatever is cheapest. that has been proven many times
 
I'd buy it if was quality stuff at reasonable prices.

I'd easily pay a few dollars more for ammo if it's good shootin stuff and made in Canada.

Challenger already has me on their 12 gauge target shells.......so why not a Canadian manufacturer to get me hooked on rimfire?
 
As with everyone else here I would buy Canadian if: 1) the quality was up to my not so high standards and 2) it didn't cost me a ton more than the imported stuff.

However- what do you or your partners really know about rimfire ammo? It is significantly more complicated than centerfire ammo which is just assembled (and that is a gross simplification). In rimfire ammo the primer energy plays a significant role in the total energy in the cartridge. It is not easy to make good rimfire ammo and many of the companies around the world that do make good stuff are successful because they have done it for decades and developed a lot of secret mojo to make it good.

Is the Canadian market for .22lr big enough? How many rounds are sold in Canada each year? How much of this market can you capture? Can you export and compete with other established companies?

3.5 million isn't a large amount to start with either...

Maybe you have this worked out in a good business case- and it would be awesome if someone made .22lr with a little maple leaf on the base- but I don't think I see it being able to fly. Good luck to you and if you have a good plan then don't let some armchair keyboardist dink like me talk you out of it.
 
To answer some I te questions(There are some we have aggred to not answer) if done it will be a fully operation plant thus we would buy powder and priming compound by "the train car" we have contacted the company's and they say manufacturers get priority,as for any other details of the venter I am not allowed to answer without everybody agreeing that it can be released. But off topic of the business mumbo jumbo hoping to start in southern Ontario in the following years and will be making the final decision on wether were going to go through with it around December or January thanks for all the support
(And for those wondering yes I'm a wannabe entrepreneur who's been working on the idea with some friends who have money and are investors)
It was partly my idea but let's not play the blame game
