First off, I'm relatively new to firearms ownership and a complete noob/newb when it comes to optics.

That being said, I have recently acquired a Cooey Model 60 (Ranger) that appears to be drilled and tapped for a Weaver #2 side mount (I'll try and get some pics posted ASAP, but I've been busy working and teaching) and I'm interested in mounting a scope as my eyes sometimes have trouble bringing the iron sights into clear focus, and I wouldn't mind a bit of magnification to help with seeing the target clearly at distances beyond 25 yards.

I'm currently considering the purchase of one of the following two scopes and would like to know which of these two you experienced guys recommend:

Simmons 8-Point (510513 3-9x40mm) - I can get it for 50 bucks, but I'm wondering if a 40mm scope is too large for my Cooey.

Simmons .22 MAG (511037 3-9x32mm) - I can get it for 53 bucks. The fact that it's silver doesn't bother me.

I think the 8-Point is the better scope, but that might be an incorrect assumption on my part.

I know there are a ton of other options out there, but I'm looking for the best bang for my buck and these two hit the price point I have budgeted for at a decent quality. I don't want a really cheap/flimsy scope, but I'm not interested in going above 50 or 60 bucks because it's only for leisurely target shooting. I'm just looking for something to make my target shooting a bit more enjoyable and easier on my tired eyes.

I'm also aware that I'll likely have to buy a set of rings as the rings that are included with these scopes probably won't work with a Weaver side-mount base. Hopefully, I will eventually find a place online to buy the base and rings because I can't seem to find a place locally that has 'em and the only online stores I've found 'em on so far are all in the US. :(

Does anyone of a Canadian online retailer that can sell me these?

of the 2 the 8 point is the best. Take your gun to any gun shop & they should have the weaver stuff. If you are sure what you want, online is a choice. EE wanted is also a possibility.

I think your best bet is to look for something used on the EE (Equipment Exchange) as a j cave suggested. A new, $50-$60 scope probably falls under the title of "flimsy" if anything does, but that's not to say you can't find something serviceable (again, used) for that price. Old Bushnell Scopechief, Bushnell Banner, Tasco (all Japanese made if possible) would be a nice choice but for $50, you'll be getting a scope with some signs of use. Used Hawke/Leapers scopes might come down as low as that if you're lucky, but they aren't as good as the scope I suggested first.

About 10 years ago, you couldn't convince me ANY scope was worth more than $100-$150..so I can relate, but if you plan on shooting the rifle allot...and in all kinds of weather...scopes in that price range (new ones) might give you some trouble.
