thinking of purchasing a Norinco NP-28 (9mm) as my first pistol. I was looking at them on Dark's web page where they are listed for $350.00.

$ 400.00 is about what i can afford at this point so that price will work well for me.

what are your opinions of this pistol? brutal honesty will be greatly appreciated.:D

thanks in advance,

Jon

I just got my Norc Commander last week, I was very impressed with the finish as I had heard horror stories about them. I would certainly recommend Norcs to others, especially if you are planning on doing a little custom work anyways.

As for the 9mm, I was looking at it as well, but I wasn't sure about parts interchangability. Thats pretty much all that stopped me from ordering a 9mm at the same time as the .45

Good luck, if you get one post us a range report, I certainly would be interested in reading it.

If you look hard and take your time, you can find a CZ 9mm (model 75 or 85)for about the same price ($400). Maybe Norinco's rep isnt as bad as it sounds, but CZ's seems to be so much better.

The NZ-85b is a nice pistol and well liked, biggest complaint is that it is a bit hard to grasp the slide to rack it. The grips are good for a Nork, and can be upgraded with hogues for $26. I have yet to see a new CZ for anything less than $650, which plus tax means it is around $730

If you can find a used one that you like go for it. But new you only have Norks to go with. If you buy from Marstar you get 1 mag and a great warranty. If you buy from Lever you get 2 mags and a decent warranty
Since you are tight for money really consider a 9mm, it works out to about $5-7 a box differance.

good luck

I am looking for a Sig right now and will get a 1911 Nork Commander later this year from Armco.

ya i saw the norc copies of the CZ but i like the norc copy of the 1911 comander in 9mm better. i dont think lever arms caries the norc i want
in 9mm and marstar is out of stock.

if lever has the CZ copies in soon then i might consider getting one of them instead.

I would get a .22, great first gun, dirt cheap ammo, and just fine to learn the basics of shooting a handgun. 9mm is $13 a box in BC where I am, gets expensive real quick unless you reload.

my $0.02

Sksnujack,

I really hate to burst your bubble, but and just but, the pig is the least of the expense..

Think of feeding this hungry beast. A single trip at the range can have your pig eat 250 + rounds with ease. In ammo dollars that can add to 50 bucks or more per trip :::

It really depends on what you want to do!

If you want to have some fun plinking get a nice used Ruger .22 buy it for about 300 and then you have an extra 100 for ammo .22 goes for about 25 bucks for 500 rounds.

If you want to get into sport and action shooting like IPSC , then revamp your budget. ammo is the costly ghost. Not to mention all the other do das that we pick up here and there, extra mags , belt, some custom work, sights, etc etc... and then if you want to be competitive, well 2000+ rounds per month

Me I would go and rent a few and try them out first, get whats good for your hand, and for what you want to do.

If just plinking, a good ol' .22 is just a very nice piece and will give years of fun and for a bottom dollar.

My 2 cents.

I have two NP-28s from DARK, both work great (after Rodger cleaned up the internals a bit ;) ;) ). In fact, if you're in the area, you can take a look at one of mine (I'm switching to K100, so won't need the backup NP28, if you'll want to buy it). PM me if interested.

I'll be going for my PAL (Non & Res) as of next week, my first pistol will hopefully be a H&K USP9 Stainless.

For a first gun, why settle for less?

getting a .22 pistol is great idea, I look the Norinco M-93 I bought for $175 as a box of 1,000 rds of 9mm. Once I fired 1,000 rds through the M-93, it had paid for itself. I shoot about 50 rds of 9mm and 2-300 rds of .22 per week, that puts my ammo cost in around $21.00 a week. I picked up a nylon holster for $26 at Dave's Surplus and found a belt and the old style police clip holder for $24.00

Gun was$400
+ $48 for holster
+ $360 for 2,000 rds of 9mm so far
+ $350 for membership and range fees

smile on my face= priceless

I would recommend a tuned Norinco 1911 from Armco. Awesome value for the money.

thanks for the info guys!

ive shot many different pistols at the range so i kind of have a good idea on what makes i like and dislike. the only factor affecting my decision is ofcourse the cost. thats why im leaning towards the norinco 9mm.

as for ammo, ill prob put around 200 rounds thru it per trip to the range. i go about once every 2 weeks so that cost wont kill me. plus i got a few other toys that need attention when i go plinking so i wont just be favoring the handgun.:D

I think that you should go big, buddy! Order an STI. You know you want to.

But really, you can never go wrong with a Norinco 1911 clone, ESPECIALLY when you get one from Armco. Gunnar's an awesome guy, and his guns are worth every penny.

I was in the same boat last year. I had 400 to spend. I bought a norc 1911 9mm NP-29. it's an alright gun, never jams or FTF's. It's single stack so lots of aftermarket parts i have a few in mine. Honestly i found the gun to be decent, not the best but i was not disapointed. But a few months later i did buy a ruger single six .22 because center fire ammo does get expensive. It might be a good idea too to save up that 1 or 2 hundred extra bucks and grab a CZ or a used glock off the forum though, If you want to have somthing nicer to start with.

Just to give you an idea, I put about 500 rounds through my .22 per trip, and Im there for about 2 1/2 - 3 hours roughly (half the time Im BSing with the guys). IMO you'll probably want to shoot more than 200 rounds per trip. I went through the EXACT same thing when I got my PAL. I listened to no ones advice on getting a .22, bought a Sig for my first gun and found out very quickly I should have bought a .22 first. Now I have a 9 and a .22 and those .22 are all kinds of fun, you can shoot all day long if you want and not have to worry about the cost. Im having so much fun with the .22 my 9 stays home most range trips.
