Opinions of Arken LH-4 and EPL-4

compared to what? same glass? same coatings? same adjustment hardware?
there are comparable Athlon scopes, depends on features
I have been leaning towards the LH-4 rather than the EPL. Cost is unfortunately a big factor and I like that both turrets are capped on the Arken. Athlon doesn’t appear to have something in the same price range (378$ before tax’s) with the same specs (4-16x44 with capped turrets) and a VPR reticle that I really like.

That being said I haven’t finished going over all of the athlons yet. Is there a particular model you would suggest?

I have 3 EPL-4's. (2 6-24x and one 4-14x) Really really hard to beat them for features, glass clarity and price. Zero issues with any of mine.

I have an EPL4 on my 223, it's a good scope however my old eyes struggle seeing the dot with the FFP on low power like anything under about 8 power, wish they made one in SFP ;)

NEOS line are capped turrets, but not the reticle.
tough to find a hunter scope with features of a target scope, or vice a vers eh
the two you have in the op are quite different
what features do you 'need'?

I need a 30mm tube. I would like a reticle which helps with hold overs. I already shoot an EP-5 on my target rifle and I like the Arken reticle. I really like the capped turrets. I often find myself hiking with this rifle in a body sling and there is concern of either knocking turrets off trees and rocks etc. or having the turrets turning inadvertently. So the capped turrets are a plus for me. My concern with the LH-4 is the glass quality. Typically when something is so cheap but packs a lot of features, there is usually a reason for it. I’ve been fooled once before with another budget FFP optic.

The FFP aspect is the biggest question mark and it applies to both of the optics. As a couple of people have already pointed out, it could prove to be challenging to see the reticle at the lower mag settings which may impede my ability to quickly get on new targets. (This is my coyote hunting rifle, so this situation may come up more often as I hone my hunting skills)

take a look, but iirc, the ffp reticle size is the same as the sfp at lowest mag. X power
then the ffp gets larger as power is dialled where as the sfp stays small
but don't trust me....;)

Haha I certainly appreciate all input! I do want to make as much of an informed decision as I can! I think I might take a swing on the LH-4 and see how it goes…. I better get it quick though. It appears as though there are only two of them in Canada right now haha

Currently running 2 sh4-js, Ep5-5x25 and an epl 4x16x44 no issues with any of them I have to say I prefer the 4x16x44 9 times out of 10 especially for hunting.

I have 2 epl 6x25 Arken scopes. Like the glass, they track well, not bad for the price. The issue i have with both of them is the power ring is very stiff to move and the ring for turning on the lighted reticule is almost unmovable.
I'm going to try a Discovery scope on my next purchase.

I recently put an epl 6-24 on my 22-250. Havent got to use it on a coyote yet but works really well on the range. As it was my first foray into an ffp scope I was worried about the reticle size at low mag but it is fine at 6x.(at 4x I would think it would be getting awful thin) It's bulkier than my other scopes but still carries fine and has a rock solid zero stop. Overall extremely happy with it, especially with the price I paid.
