Hi,

Just got a Rem 700vs and looking for a good long range scope. Was wondering if a Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40 would be a good scope. Any scopes of better quality in the same price range?

Thanks.

Great glass. Very clear and bright. However, I HATE those 1/8" turrets. Why the Hell doesn't Bushnell use 1/4" or 1/4 MOA turrets is beyond me. I like the side focus idea too but not for 200 clams more.

Love them and use them on my F class and LR hunting rifles. At present, there are no better scopes at this price range and personally, not much better for a lot more money. They are light on elevation adjustment but shimming helps.

The 1/8MOA is loved by those who compete at LR. Makes fine adjustments way easier then 1/4 or larger value clicks.

I use the mil dot version which helps me gain alot of elevation adjustment.

for the price (~$400 used) there isn't better glass out there. The target turrets and adjustments are nice as well. The AO is precise and sharp. A bit more elevation would be nice however.

I have the side-focus model with mildot and I really like it. I'm a huge fan of the semi-target turrets (that can be covered with the aluminum screw cap so they don't inadvertently get changed to a different setting) and the vernier markings on the turrets (to get back to a particular setting).

For adjustment, it has a clickable range of 33 MOA for windage and 32 MOA for elevation. When I did the bathroom mirror test I found the erector centre had ~11 MOA remaining in left and down adjustment.

Quick question about this scope (side-focus model): What are the proper butler creek flip up cover sizes to use with it?

mine is the old BAUSCH AND LOMB 6x24 before it became a bushnell. not as good but i would still buy one. wish this was on a 6500 series with 30mm tube. now that would be a scope.

I had two, and broke 2. I also had a 6-24 x 50 Tactical, 30mm with side focus for awhile. while I didn't have that one long enough to break it, the term over-rated piece of crap comes to mind.
The glass on the higher bushnells is fair, but judgeing a riflescope solely by its glass is like judging a gravel truck by its windsheild.

"Broke 2" .... On what?

.

The first died on a Anschutz .22 long rifle. The new replacement ended its days on a HB .223, but also saw use on the 64 MS, and a sporter weight 22/250.
The 6-24 x 50 liked to turn its own side focus knob on every shot, so I fired it before it quit. That one rode on my .338 Edge for about 6 weeks, until its Mark 4 replacement showed up.

Well those Anschutz' are known for beating up scopes :p

I have one on one of my Rem 700 LTRs. In this price range, it is quite a good scope. However, it has been on probably half a dozen other rifles and been replaced with either Leupolds or NF. Good for the money does not mean good enough, in some cases. My current scope will probably end up on my CZ Varmint where hopefully it fairs better than Dogleg's scope
