Hey, anybody on here have/use a heavy barrel rifle in .25-06? I'm thinking about a factory Remington 700 with a .25-06 heavy barrel. I don't think there are any in current production but I know Rem offered the 700 BDL in a .25-06 HB previously. Just looking for some opinions/experiences....

I had a Ruger M77 Varmint (HB) in .25-06 that I used in 200m bench rest shooting some years ago. I'm kicking myself for letting that one go!

I'm now shooting a Ruger #1 in .25-06, but not HB. I'm in the process of tuning loads for it, now.

MY 25-06 isnt a HB, but its definately not a lightweight. Its the same contour as my 338 WM Ruger. Its got a 24 inch tube. and weighs 10.5 lbs loaded and ready to go.
Its not a carry all day gun, but its definately soemthing I wouldnt be without.
You can zing out 75 gr Vmax's at close to 3800 FPS, and shoot 120 gr partitions for large game. Its truly a Heavy varmint, Light Big game cartridge capable of taking game up to moose with the right bullets
Bonecollector's wife used the 25-06 to mustre some pretty good 1000 yard groups a couple years ago. Its a very capable long range round IMHO

I shot a 25 06 700 remington sillouette for a long time. They are extremely accurate. Gophers well beyond 400 yards were dead. Same for deer. Works well for elk and moose too if you do your job properly.

I saw a Sako 75 Wood/Blued in 25-06 with a heavy barrel about a year ago. It was at P&D and they were selling it for $1000 if I remember right. It was on special. Sako might still make one if you checked into it.

I have a cheap stevens model, but heavy barrel it is not.Not sure how expensive it would be to rebarrel one but might be alot cheaper than buying a sako or rem and should shoot as well.I am also getting pretty good velocities out of mine with a 22 inch tube.Got 3250 today with a load of 4831 that is 2 grains below max in the speer manual.100 gr hornadies.they seem to shoot about 30 fps faster than the sierra 100 gr btsp in my rifle anyways.

I shoot a 25WSSM in a Browning Varmint medium heavy barrel. It is supposed to be the ballistic equivalent of a 25-06.... I find it better than.
Aside from that it is easily the longest shooting most accurate medium calibre firearm I have in the stable. Just ask Darryl.

I don't have a heavy barrel 25-06 but I do have a 25-06. It a great little caliber, just about right for deer, but works good on bigger varmit as well. Load up lighter bullets for yotes and use the 120grn bullets on deer. I would not hesitate to use it on a moose in a pinch, not my recomended moose gun but it would work.

I had a Remington H.B. in 25-06 bout 10 years ago.I used it on a couple of yotes then lent it to my buddy to use for deer hunting and he had a very happy season with it,then i sold it to a guy that was just looking for a action and i have been kicking my azz ever since for selling such a accurate rifle just so some one could build something:rolleyes:
Plz some one kick me in the keister for being so stupid..

Bigredd, what sort of velocities are you getting with the Browning? Thanks.
The 25WSSM velocities I am getting with the Browning Stalker 24" medium heavy barrel are Max load @ 3680fps with the 85 grain B/T's the accuracy load is 3602 Av. with a 10 fps variance.
The 115 B/Ts maxed out at 3150 but the best accuracy is at 3010fps.
I am still working loads for the 110 accubonds and they are shooting sub-moa @ 3200fps ... they are showing no pressure and there is lots of case left.
I have been using BL-C2 exclusively but I am going to try some H-4350 for the 110 accubonds.
I Moly-coat all my bullets as well.

Got one that Ted Gaillard made the barrel, a Magnum sporter profile @ 26 in. I made the stock , and the action is a Mauser 98 with a butter Knife handle made up by Veore.
This gun is my first choice for bean field / power line deer hunting.
