Seeing as i am a impulse buyer i saw this lil shotgun in a store and now want it for the camp. now seeing as my wife posses the more rational part i am doing as see wants and am looking for peoples opinions on this gun , the good , the bad and the ugly

I think they are pretty fun little toys. good noise makers, good for shooting squirels. I don't think I would want to carry it for any defense situation. If camp defence is the reason you are thinking of the backpacker, you might want to consider the Canam 12G version.

I've got one for those "Walking around the field and a gopher pops out of no-where" situations, be warned, every one I've shot, and ever one that I've talked to about including the one I own now, shoots high, ie @ 25 yards you aim at the bottom of a 2 liter pop bottle, you'll hit the cap. There a little back heavy, but fun and functional.

I had a boito and I liked it. Very compact and it is not as marginal as most give it credit. There exist a 3 inch 000 buckshot containing 5 balls. The almighty 12 Guage 2/4 only has 3 more. However locating said ammo is difficult and compared to 12 guage it is expensive. When I bought the boito it was the only short barrelled single shot available. I sold it as soon as Canam annouced they were getting in the same thing in 12 Guage. 12 guage is cheaper, more powerful and easy to find a selection of different loadings.

Son & I both have them.
Fun little guns, not the most accurate but OK for grouse and bunnies at short range. Cheaper than bear bangers as a noise maker but please don't start a "bear defence with a 410 thread". :D
No recoil to speak of and easy to handle so it's a decent way to introduce the wife and kids to shooting.
Small, as you are aware, easy to toss in the ATV, backpack, whatever. We have custom made "holsters" for ours that we can strap onto our backpacks, waist, whatever if wanted.
Don't think they are manufacturing them anymore so they are becoming harder to find.
410 shells are abit more expensive than 12 or 20's but they really are not 'expensive".
Buy it, if you don't like it offer it up for sale on the EE at twice what you paid. ;)

I like mine, very light for long walks. good for rabbits, squirrels, grouse. Very good for going through thick bush. I find it accurate enough you just have to aim low. I find it a useful tool, you will get your money's worth out of it.

the gun shop i went to says it is a regular stock item for them and they find it hard to keep in stock ,, for the price $200 im not really looking for defence but something that i can shoot rabbits with , and be able to pass down to my daughter to start shooting with in a year and considering its small weight i think i like it as a better option then a .22 cause it weight about 2 lbs less , i will look into they other guns mentioned , my wife is going to hate me lol

OK Grouser, what is a Yildiz TK36 and where do I get one? :D
Searched all over and can't find a 410 folder.

TK-36. Unique Single barrel(26") shotgun. $219

While the Boito .410 hiker is a neat, handy little piece it suffers from the same problem that all short barreled shotguns have - excessive noise and muzzle blast. They are comparable to a .357 magnum revolver in that respect.

These short barrel shotguns are hard on your hearing, at the range you can wear plugs or muffs but that that is not really practical while hunting grouse. I do my .410 hunting with a longer barrel - if size is an issue I have an old Harrington & Richardson folding .410:

I bought one of these last fall (still have'nt shot it) off the EE here. IMO they're a neat practical tool. Mine will ride on the back storage box on my quad for chickens & such.
Mine has IGA-GAUCHA stamped on the side not Boito.
But same model I'm sure.
What's the going price on these puppies?

They are really neat. I had the oppurtunity to shoot the one Huntsman has today. The ultimate quad gun for chicken.
