Wondering what can cause a barrel bushing on a Norc 1911 to fail? Was working up some loads in 45-08 and was at the max I wanted to go( 10gn longshot and the armscor article says not to exceed 10.5gn but they went to 11gn). This is using 230gn cast bullets. Just too hot?

Unlikely that a hot load would cause this.Check that your recoil spring isn't too long and is fully compressing before the slide is in its full rearward position in recoil. This can cause a lot of stress to be transferred to the bushing causing it to fail.Have you put in an aftermarket recoil spring to shoot the heavier loads?.its not uncommon to have to trim a few coils from aftermarket recoil springs when installing them to prevent this problem

Running the pistol with 22lb recoil spring and full length guide rod with buffer. I'm thinking maybe the buffer could be the issue decreasing the amount of space the spring has to compress adding to the stress on the bushing. Or just a weak bushing that was always destined to fail.

Yeah gonna drop the powder charge as 9gn was plenty accurate. Also gonna pick up a 200gn bullet mold. All on hiatus until I get a new bushing Laugh2 looks like the 40 is gonna be my go to pistol in the bush for now.
