Opinions on Cabela's Brand Scopes

Hello folks!

I've been scanning the interweb and have noticed how dirt cheap these scopes are. I'm a big believer in "you get what you pay for" so I don't see these scopes being super high quality. But then again, I'm sure there isn't a Cabelas Scope factory somewhere, so my guess is they buy them from a scope maker and stamp their own name on them.

Any idea who really makes these scopes?

Any opinions on how good or bad these are? Maybe only suitable for small calibre rifles (read rimfire)?

If they are any good, or on par with some of the lower end models from reputable scope makers, it seems like another option for the budget minded shooter.

Someone on here said the Euro scopes are made by Minox and they look Minoxy enough for me to believe it. Cabela's does say they are made for them by a European manufacturer, and I think they wouldn't lie about it. I have noticed a Meopta logo on one of their Euro line binos in a catalogue.

Their cheaper lines would be made in Japan, Phillipines, Korea, China, according to price, like most optics brands. (If you pay enough the Chinese can make you a scope as good as a Zeiss, but that doesn't happen because we consumers aren't going to pay Zeiss retail prices for a Chinese scope.) Cabela's may be able to give you a slightly better scope for a given price because they don't have the marketing costs of a name brand scope, but of course their cheaper scopes aren't as good as their more expensive own label lines.

Still have one that's OK, but two others went back as paperweights. You're way better off with a Vortex Crossfire in the same price range.

...If you pay enough the Chinese can make you a scope as good as a Zeiss, ...
I have read good things about Hilux scopes. There are some reviews by David Fortier here: hi-luxoptics.com/articles-reviews/.

There is also a new-ish brand of binos from Zen-Ray, which are getting good reviews. Both brands are in the minority, of course. Most of the Chinese stuff is for the Wal-Mart crowd.

My gf, who is a univ. biology prof., recently got a brand-new-to-the-market Zeiss microfluoroscopy scope with LED illuminators. ($20,000+; not for home use!). Some of Zeiss's less-expensive lenses are made in China.
...but that doesn't happen because we consumers aren't going to pay Zeiss retail prices for a Chinese scope.
Except those who buy King Optics:rolleyes:
