I am just getting into action shooting and about to buy a gun...
not sure if I want to go with the 38 super or 45
the 38 super has all the bells and whistles that i would eventually put on a 45
ideas?

Hi. A .45 is easier to load for and the ammo is everywhere. Mind you, if the pistol you're looking at is within your budget and you can easily find .38 Super ammo jump on it, but find the ammo first.

In many 38 Super autos it's kind of scary to think that such a high pressure loading is fired in pretty much a chamber that is not supported 100%. The thought that a potential weak webb area of a cartridge is all that's between a hot handload & my eyeball gives me the creeps for some reason.

Maybe I'm too paranoid?

The 38 Super is no more difficult to load for than the 45 ACP. The 45 brass may last a little longer but the bullets are more expensive. If you're going with a gun that has a compensator, the 38 is much better than the 45 due to the higher pressures giving the comp more force to work with.

That is why I love this site..so many different thoughts and ways to look at things. I really would like to get an STI Trubore in 38 super but the extra cost would pay for alot of other stuff...
