I've been thinking of putting a set of these on my Sako in 300WM. The reason I first became interested in them is that they just look nice.

Anyway, I just learned that there are no screws holding the base in place. To install them you take a block of wood and a hammer and "tap" them into the integral tapered dovetail. Needless to say, I'm a little hesitant to rely on this system. Please give your opinions! :)

I have a set on my Sako and I think they are the nicest looking rings out there. This rifle is a .222 though, so I can't really comment on how they hold up under recoil. I'm sure they are fine... they seem to get used on a lot of custom rifles.

Thanks for the replies.

Here's what I found on the Conetrol site:

"Although the DapTar bases may be considered more attractive in many cases, the screw-attached bases are probably more fool-proof in that manufacturing tolerances are easier to maintain on both gun and mount."

That reads as somewhat of a compromise for aesthetics over functionality to me....to what degree, I'm not certain. They sure are purdy though! ;)

I have a set on my Sako 75 and they add to the looks of the rifle. I had to do some work to install them but the rifle sure looks gooooood. As for handling recoil I can’t really say because the rifle is chambered for 7mm-08 and have had no problems. One thing about these rings is that the scope can be mounted lower compared to the Optilock rings...
