That said, you won't be able to get one for another year or so as DPMS has stopped selling them. They are in the throws of re-designing the bolt as they have had some cycling issues they wanted to resolve. If you can find a full rifle I would suggest you buy it. If you can only find an upper, then buy it immediatley. Get the lower here in Canada. Most people in the states are now sold out and DPMS won't be re-supplying for some time.

I have the first generation of the AP4 upper and it cycles fine, shoots well and looks way cool. Also real cheap to shoot. There are other companies that make the M4 style in .22lr.
Olympic ARms
Fulton Armories
Bushmaster ...to name a few.

Don't forget the CZ AR15 .22lr upper that Marstar sells. Don't know much about it but the people on AR15.com (Rimfire and Pistol section) have done some range reports on it.

Good luck in you search. Shooting the AR15 in .22lr is fabulous, mostly because it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg for ammo.

I looked over the Olympics ARms catalog and they sell a complete .22 rifle, is it worth it to buy that whole rifle or to get a good lower with the upper separate?

Accurracy Speaks also builds a great upper. There has been a few write ups about his uppers and complete guns and how the PALM guys have used them to up there scores.

I have one lower with a match grade trigger assembly and three uppers. This way it keep the costs down to a minimum. Besides, you can't shoot all three at the same time so its no big deal. I have a .22lr upper, a .223 M4 upper for tactical matches and a 20" A2 HBar for longer distance shooting. I wouldn't mind getting a 11.5" upper just because.

I like the one lower, multiple uppers idea myself. It lets you trick out just one lower instead of several lowers. Think about putting a match grade trigger into each lower you own. How about a collapsible stock on each lower. It can get very expensive.

I shoot competition that requires you to shoot x number of rounds rimfire and x number of rounds centre fire which means you have to shoot two rifle types during the relay. Most people I shoot with have say a 10/22 for the rimfire part and maybe something like a Tika Tactical for the centre fire part. I just switch out uppers and am always shooting the same rifle so to speak. It works great for me.

BTW, Accuracy Speaks, as mentioned above, is also very good at building uppers in .22lr but there might be a longer wait time as they are a small outfit.
