Opinions on entry level over/unders

I still say that for the volumes you say you will be shooting- you'll be fine with whatever you bring home. Lots of shotgun people on here are thinking about running flats and flats of target loads for clays. You sound like you will be shooting a flat over many years. IMO a cheaper gun will handle this fine. Serious clay shooters are spending thousands of dollars on ammo/targets a year, so cheap guns are false economy and won't hold up. Since you are just hunting, a few boxes a year is all I would guess you will shoot and therefore the durability of a gun for tens of thousands of shells would be a lower priority. Buy what fits and you'll hit what you are looking at- a bird doesn't know if it got shot with a $500 Baikal or a $10K Kolar...

Yes, you are free to buy what you want. But take heed to what people are telling you about cheap over/unders. Do your research if you are going to buy a low priced gun. Some, such as the Baikal and CZ will probably work for you for your intended shooting. However, some of these other low priced brands have not lasted for 4 boxes of shells and I'm sure you will be shooting that amount. A bird might not know the difference between a $500.00 gun or a $10K gun but it sure knows the difference between a "boom "or a "click".

O/U's IMO are the pinnacle of shotguns. I have shot many, but have yet to get my own. I was thinking about grabbing a Baikal for 500 or so, but I said screw that after I held a Browning Citori 725 30" Barrel with extended chokes. It was amazing, the feel, the balance, the weight, ease of taking apart..... Yeah it costs 2800 which means I may have to start putting money aside and maybe get it next fall. But it will be worth it IMO, an investment. I don't really like buying used myself.
